Description
Due to severe overpopulation, the planet Earth’s diameter is increasing with the growth of towering mega-cities, each inhabited by millions of humans. Buildings are growing ever-upwards, interconnected with a thick web of roads, walkways and service channels. In these giant human hives, only the affluent may feel the rays of the sun and breathe the cleaner air. Your team has been selected to go down and investigate problems at the Real Meat factory, in which all of the equipment has started to simultaneously malfunction. Technicians sent to repair the machinery have gone missing without explanation. The UPA's (Urban Protection Agency) orders are clear: prepare for the descent.

Project Eden is a 3D shooter with an emphasis on puzzle-solving. You'll lead a squad consisting of four UPA agents: Carter Dorlan, Andre Herderman, Minoko Molensky, and Amber Torrelson. Each operative has his or her own special ability that you'll need to master in order to progress. As Carter, use your knack for interrogation and nimble fingers to gain information and unlock doors. When you need something fixed and in a hurry, Andre is your man. Computer terminals are no match for Minoko's hacking talents. Last but not least, Amber can traverse hazardous environments with nary a scratch and she'll be your weapons expert. Brave the lowest strata and prepare to go through hell in Project Eden! If you're looking for some gritty cyberpunk-ish storytelling, challenging puzzles, and original gameplay (with optional drop-in, drop-out co-op), this is your game!

  • Lead 4 specialists in squad-based play into an abyss of vast caverns, snake-like tunnels, and derelict slums filled with cultists, gang-bangers, and mutants.
  • Morphing enemies will challenge you constantly, mutating as soon as you learn how to destroy them.
  • Descend into the darkness alone or with up to 3 friends in co-op multiplayer.

Totally lost cybervikings

I remember spending countless hours on this one. I love the dark, futuristic, industrial setting, so I thought this pretty little game would be a great fix. And It turned out to be Puzzle Game. Well, based on the screenshots, it looks like the game looks like your average early 2000's 3rd person shooter/platformer thingy, but it's pretty far from it. If there is anything like it, I would say Lost Vikings. For anyone not familiar with it: In lost Vikings, you control three little guys, in a platforming-like environment. You can swith between them on the same level, and all of them have different, unique abilities. Abilities you need to deal with certain, level specific traps, machines and foes. The goal is to get ALL of your characters through the level simultaneously, with the power of good teamwork between them. And that's pretty much the same game here. It's a very unique concept and I wonder why only a so small amount of games decided to use it. Definitely worth a try, especially if you like puzzle games, epic sci-fi plots, and if this version of the game has the latest patches installed with (the original release I had was REALLY buggy).

Vast, challenging and smart

What makes this game unique are the amazing, expansive, interrelated spaces that you explore, and the interesting puzzles. The game has some flaws, but the excellent, intricate level design, made by Neal Boyd and Heather Gibson (the level designers of Tomb Raider 1 and Tomb Raider 2) makes for an awesome experience. If you like to be challenged by confusing, enormous levels like the ones in TR1 and TR2, if this is your type of gameplay, you should totally play it. Project Eden was probably the first attempt to make co-op puzzle multiplayer that can be seen in modern games such as Portal 2 and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Life. It was also one of the first games to try to show the body of the character in first person (although less successful than Mirror's Edge). In its single player, Project Eden is reminiscent to The Lost Vikings - characters with different equipment and abilities, controlled by the player, help each other. For example, the hacker lady can control machines and buildings, even if her fragile body is locked somewhere; the rover can go into small holes where only rats and electric roaches can go, etc. The story bits are sparsely scattered across the levels, but the narrative is quite original, the journey towards the abandoned depths of the dystopian futuristic city is depicted well, and, especially at the end, the game manages to provide story by integrating it tightly with gameplay. It's a must see, but I wouldn't like to spoil it any further.

A nice addition

This one is definitely worth buying. The graphics didn't age all that good, the combat system feels old and primitive, BUT the game is VERY long, the puzzles and level design are excellent and as a whole it's a really nice experience. The story is ok, we get four different playable characters, using their skills simultaneously is fun, especially when they get separated. You get some shooting action, but if that's what you're looking go buy something else - this one is more like "Right, so I shot all the baddies, now what are this switches supposed to do?" Perhaps not a must have, but you get a lot of game for your 5.99$.

I enjoyed this game more than Deus Ex.

This game is like Anachronox, a great game no one played, it has an atmosphere that grows on you, the longer you play this the better it gets. Gameplay is like Tomb Raider in that you have to solve a series of puzzles to complete the level. This is done by your team in which each member has a speciality, hacker, mechanic, walking tank and a leader who has admin rights (yeah really). In that it can be compared a bit with The Lost Vikings or Commandos for that matter. Like the Core Design Tomb Raider games combat is here to spice things up, but exploration and puzzle solving are the real meat of the game.

flawed but memorable

A huge game pitting your squad of 4 against a constant stream of threats from the environment and dangerous lifeforms. The storyline leads your group deeper and deeper below the mile-high futuristic city you're protecting, through a mix of mammoth support structures and decaying streets from previous decades. There isn't as clear a progression as I'd have liked, but every level is well realized. Exploration is a big part of the game. You control one squad member at a time, switching between them at will. Splitting them up for lengthy periods is required to pass many obstacles. Combat is plentiful, but Eden isn't about reflexes. Enemies respawn in certain areas, and your characters come back to life every time they die, so the challenge is positioning your squad well enough to secure a path to the next checkpoint. Eden is clunky and easy to get lost in, and the ending isn't satisfying for the amount of effort required, but it's an epic blend of puzzles and tactics in a unique setting. Very rewarding once you buy into it.
