But I am a big fan of the pikmin series, and I do enjoy figuring out how to set up factories to generate the materials I need when there is an actual reason to do so beyond simply "Automate this".
Oddsparks has enough exploration and excitement in it to effectively counterbalance what I would normally find to be a boring and grating process of setting up machinery in other games. Plus, the style and aesthetic are just perfect, you really can't go wrong with these cute little critters.
I would reccomend this game if you like satisfactory or factorio, its a cute automation game that uses sprites instead of belts with a little bit of light combat thrown in
My first impression was that it would be heavier on the pikmin and lighter on the factorio. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that actually it is the opposite! The pikmin adventuring gameplay is there but not super heavy, the focus is really on how to build your pikmin factory.
I particularly enjoyed their spin on 'belts'. Rather than belts that you can deposit goods on and they get transported, you build roads on which your sparks (i.e., pikmin) walk around. This results in a whole set of logistics puzzles on how to best move the sparks around, for which you get a range of road elements that mirror standard belt objects like splitters, filters, and so on.
I'm having fun with this game, but it fails at the automation part: Most items and sparks you need for one thing only: Quests. For quests you need anexorbitant amount, and later you will never need them again. Also building automatic transportation across the mountains is very complicated, so for the most part it is best to have a small setup for building materials and for the rest simply carry a few stacks of the materials over via waypoint and then wait until the production is finished.
I do like the exploration part and the spark handling, though!
The tutorial is forced at the begining of the game, but it has an issue, it doesn't explain you how to play, it only forces certain missions on you.
It's your job to look on google or youtube how to actually play in order to finish the tutorial
