Unfortunately a big disappointment
I can't understand the good reviews at all, does the community really have such low standards? Yes the game is like Zeus, Pharao or Caesar.. but its only a skeleton of the former classics at best. As an EA title it would've been ok to release the game in its current state, but this is almost outrageous. No health system and diseases. No police and crime. No fire hazard and fire brigade. Super simple financial system. There are no taxes or rent, nothing. Feels dry and bland. Lifeless cities, almost no interactions, no voicelines, no sound effects or ambient noise at all. No armies or conflicts with other citys, bandits etc. No random events like drought, flood, storm, disease etc. You can build monuments, but they're very unspectacular and almost useless. No deities that can give you blessings or curses. No sandbox mode. No scenarios (yet). Only 12 missions of which ~6 are tutorials. Maybe there are more, but the achievements indicate 12 and I quit after the 6th mission because... ...missions are soooo boring. The briefing reads like specialist literature and you basically build the same production chains over and over again. Then you set the game to max speed and wait until the "You have won" message appears. Thats it. Tiny maps with little variety. Logistic micromanagement gets tedious fast. Maybe some people like to set worker routes manually, but after a few missions it just annoyed me. They've basically complicated a system that is mostly fine as an automated thing. The very tight building ranges lead to the same boring city layout again and again. Routes don't have any automatic re-route in the case of a restructure. Change one road tile? Ok, manually re-route 15 workers. Meh.. yeah, well, I could go on forever. It's really sad, but tbh you're better off playing the 20 year old classics instead of this. I will keep an eye on the game though, because it has some pontential. Maybe its enjoyable in a year or two and with a bunch of mods.
