Description

Join the District Crime Agency in this isometric, modern noir deduction thriller. Explore crime scenes in complex dioramas, organize your evidence effectively, and blur the lines between right and wrong to present your case. Do you have what it takes to be a real detective?

On her first day at the DCA, fresh-faced rookie Cassandra Clarke, is teamed with a reluctant burnt-out detective, Nate Huston, to investigate the murder of a prominent politician. While all evidence points to a botched robbery, it soon entwines the two detectives into a complex, interconnected series of crimes that are anything but an open-and-shut case.

Explore detailed, isometric crime scenes, navigating perspectives to uncover new clues. Question suspects in the area, and find contradictions in evidence to catch them out. Can you tell apart the red herrings from the key to the case?

Gather walls of evidence from crime scenes, interviews with suspects, and forensic results. It’s up to you to keep your workspace organized so you don’t miss anything, and cut through to the real who, what, and why.

Enjoy a rich and immersive story inspired by film noir, written by film & TV professionals at BAFTA-winning production company Blazing Griffin. With complex characters and dark, pervasive settings, expect the unexpected as the scales of justice are tilted.

Murder Mystery Machine

I bought this game since this is the type of games I like, I don't mind looking for clues and placing things in the right order, and trying to find more clues and piecing things together and I love taking my time to look around, anyway after playing for about 1 and a half hours I decided to quit the game, much to my horror when I restarted the game it brought me back to the beginning of the investigation, this is a No No for me and since there were no reviews here I went to Steam reviews and sure enough other people got caught with this very limited save points this is definitely a No No for Adventure games, shame on the Developers. On the Good news I asked GOG for a refund toward my Wallet and they QUICKLY refunded me within 12 Hours, that is truly amazing and excellent support, KUDOS to GOG for this, this is why I love buying games at GOG.

Bare-bones, sometimes frustrating

There are the rudiments of a good game here. The "corkboard" approach, combining evidence to reach conclusions, is obviously a fun idea. But this game is let down by a few things. First, the corkboard is really all there is. You connect pieces of evidence to unlock new dialogue options, and then submit your conclusions once you've unlocked everything you can in the level. You don't interact with the evidence in any other way than the corkboard, and conversations are totally linear- you can't fumble a delicate conversation with a key witness, or the like. Second, the corkboard can be frustrating. You will inevitably figure out what's going on before the protagonist does, then struggle to get your deduction onto the corkboard- it's easy enough for you as the player to deduce that A + B = C, but when you have half a dozen pieces of evidence relevant to point A, and half a dozen relevant to point B, it often results in trial and error to figure out which two pieces of evidence you're meant to link to get C on the board. Lastly, the writing is lackluster. Even the protagonists are barely characterized, and the plot falls back on generic detective/cop story tropes (adultery, gambling debts, political corruption, etc) rather than doing anything very original. There's no real suspense, and the twists are entirely predictable. Overall, this is dull as a game, and too overtly mechanical to be really compelling as a story. The mechanics would be tolerable if the writing were great, or the writing would be tolerable if the mechanics were deeper, but as-is, it's kind of a flop. I think there are elements here that could be refined into a much better game, though, and I hope the developers get the chance to do so.

Confused but not confusing

It feels like the game wants you to sort through evidence, making connections and deducing the truth. But then it feels like it wants to hold your hand the whole time too. Ultimately I got more frustrated that pop-up windows I can't dismiss covered the evidence page while I'm trying to make connections. After the first stage that completely walks you through everything, I thought I could play, but the immersion is broken every time I try.

Fun and Interesting

I really enjoyed this game. It was easy to learn and fun to make the connections and unravel the story. It is true that you have to start a chapter over if you stop in the middle of one, but all you have to do is quit in between chapters or leave the game open if you are drawn away unexpectedly. I'm going to play it again to see what I missed and what different things happen when I make different choices. I hope they make another one.

Like having a teacher who hates you.

What numbers can be added together to make 4? The only answer is apparently 2+2. 3+1 isn't the answer they want, so it's 'wrong'. As is 1+3. 'wrong' and also 4+0 and 0+4. 'wrong'. ==================================== The framework is EXCELLENT. Gfx/Sfx are perfect, they give you all the info you need without being too distracting. But the 'puzzles' are about as flexible as a frozen rock, which means they soon devolve into 'try to guess what the game actually wants' and not 'How do I solve this puzzle?' There are way too many leaps being made for a game called Murder MYSTERY Machine. At one point I had to move forward by *accusing someone I had no evidence against*. As a prototype this is excellent. Even for what it is, it's reasonably priced. I hate to say it but this might be the perfect game for people who can't think outside the lines, which is kind of the opposite of what a MYSTERY should be.
