MASTER NAVAL WARFARE

War Sails introduces a unique and immersive naval warfare system that has been inspired by accounts of actual medieval sea battles. Featuring realistic wind and water physics, ship-to-ship combat lets you board enemies from multiple points, ram them, or attack from afar.

Captains can seize opportunities by boarding already engaged ships, prepare for an incoming attack by creating a floating fortress or take a risk to tie down several enemies at once - giving their allies an edge elsewhere. They may ram an enemy ship to sink it - or at least throw men off board, shatter oars and compromise buoyancy. Well-placed arrows and ballista fire can also tear through sails, further crippling mobility. 

 


 

EXPLORE AN EXPANDED WORLD

Calradia has been reimagined with a northern region, a settled island, coastal waters and open seas. The dynamic weather system was also refined to include storms and trade winds. Ships move faster when riding the gales, but beware—attrition can unravel even the best-laid plans.

The naval systems and Nord faction integrate into Bannerlord’s world, reshaping trade, warfare, and diplomacy. Ship production and new trade goods add regional variety. Coastal towns may grow rich from this — if they can fend off pirates and naval invasions.

Sieges have also been adapted to naval warfare. Armies will have to bring along a fleet and set up a blockade, if they want to stop supplies and reinforcements arriving over sea.

 


 

BUILD YOUR FLEET

Players can choose from 18 ship types modelled after historical vessels, each with unique handling, shaped by realistic wind and wave physics. They can be customized with siege engines, cargo holds, sails, rams, and more. Shipyards build and stock vessels based on their town’s culture and development. Players can also capture ships and figureheads in battle. 

 

EXPAND YOUR ARSENAL

The character system has been extended with Nord hairstyles, beards, and tattoos. Three nautical skills were added that enhance navigation, tactics, and stewardship. There are also many new items including spears, swords, axes, shields, and armor.

Troop trees now include mariner troops that are more effective at sea. Players can also recruit new companions with maritime backgrounds.

 

 

LEARN THE ROPES

A new questline introduces players to the seas of Calradia through cinematics, scripted missions, and classic Mount & Blade gameplay. Learn how to command your ship, then take it into battle against a pirate confederacy. Lead a growing fleet of newfound allies as you face a range of nautical challenges.

 

 

ENHANCED AUDIO

The sounds of the sea come to life with new Mediterranean and Nordic-inspired musical tracks. Experience rich soundscapes with piercing winds, crashing waves and creaking ships. Feel the heat of battle as steel clashes and sailors cry out.

Wait on this one.

Tale Worlds should probably have delayed launch for another month. The core ideas and gameplay are fun and fresh, it's a new direction for the M&B series but this is a glitchy hot mess that shouldn't have been released yet. The cutscenes glitch and stutter, the new menu screen looks great but the animations are choppy and repetitive. The new tutorial is copy pasted on top of the old campaign tutorial and the structure of it is unclear and a little jarring if you want to skip the old content. The voice acting is great, kinda cheesy, kinda funny. The in-game cutscenes leave a little to be desired as NPCs clip through you while Gunnar (your new meme worthy companion) pontificates about the glory of warrior society and how Norse had to raid uphill both ways back in his day. The new towns all look lovely, the scenery team is blameless in all of this. I have several really good screenies of new locations, however - all the ports seem to be the same location for each town. There are map changes I am puzzled by, like the removal of the lake and bridge around Ocs Hall for example, a needless change that leaves the area barren looking. Some rivers are clearly widened to accommodate ships but don't connect to any waterways. The new map areas feel underdeveloped and sparse, still no functioning roads in Calradia either, while entire areas remain bare as if hinting at possible future expansions, which raises feelings of ambivalence. There are plenty of new items and the Nords seem to be well designed and very thematic. Walking around the new towns is great, aside from some janky NPCs and re-used content it all looks good. The sea battles seem okay aside from a silly tutorial, more testing is needed but... It's release day. I've played, or tried to play, several times now and I keep running into issues. The launcher doesn't like starting, the rudder glitches out sometimes and you can't take control of your ship after releasing it. There is no confirmation or warning that you've begun boarding and often you slip past ships and have to pull a quick reverse which seems unlikely in high waves. The high waves don't really do much, turning across a wave has no ill effect when in reality this would sink a vessel. Ramming feels ineffectual and can be cancelled by the enemy throwing a rope at you. At one point during the tutorial it is clear that your character has been replaced by a heavily concealed stand-in model, or rather the stand-in model has not yet been replaced by the player character. It's painfully obvious. In another dialogue scene a character repeats the same line after every dialogue option and sometimes the voice recordings play without you having clicked to continue, leading to garbled lines and some hilarity. I give it two stars because it's Bannerlord and eventually War Sails will be a nice addition to the game, even if it falls to modders to fix it. For now though I recommend you wait for the patches and a decent sale price.

Love the game but needs work

I love bannerlord and have played it a lot. But this DLC seems way to rushed and unpolished. It's very buggy with a lot of clipping and lag. Even for my computer that can run resource eating games just fine. Plus the whole map change is just barren and ugly looking. I can understand wanting to change things to let the new faction be enjoyed. But this is just bad. Like orc's hall and the lake is completely changed. Poro's is moved and the island's is gone to, why remove the island's in the massive lake in the middle of the map??? Heck i would've made a smaller faction be there since we got a nord faction

where is the patch 1.3.4 to 1.3.5

War Sail is coming,but I can't find the patch 1.3.4 to 1.3.5,so I can't upgrade my game to the lastest version 1.3.7.……Must I download the whole game again?

last straw

Yeah, yeah: I know. This is not so much a review of the game as of TaleWorlds and -- in the past -- I would have rolled my eyes (much as you are doing now), down-voted and moved on... -BUT- After going on record (numerous times) saying they will always make sure old saves are compatible with new versions of the game (which, with minor issues, has mostly worked up to now); TaleWorlds made a big u-turn with War Sails, which will straight up tell you "old saves won't work because they were not made with War Sails." Going into this "expansion" I had three campaigns parked and raring to go. To be now told I can't use any of them and have to start over is very convenient (for the devs); and kind of a slap in the face (for this player). My time is not unlimited: I can't just put in another 100 hours into a game because a dev felt like not making it backwards compatible... Instead, I'm choosing to vote with my wallet. I'm getting War Sails refunded and will no longer support TaleWorlds in the future (which kinda sucks, because I loved Bannerlord). If you want to back a company that gives a whit about its supporters, I'd advise you to look elsewhere as well.
