Overpromised and Undermanaged

I joined in EA very soon after BL went up, and for nearly three years played solely vanilla, doing my part to hunt bugs and suggest fixes to its many problems. Despite all that time in EA, TaleWorlds released this game too early. What they got right - the first-person combat experience is pretty to see and feels OK. You will notice considerable easing of the challenge as your character gains experience, which is good; a twitchmaster shouldn't be king of the battlefield when he's little more than a peasant. Walking around in a city or town is pretty darn nice... only, the game gives you no real reason to do so, so it's largely wasted chrome. What they got wrong - well, nearly everything else. I don't have an hour to write a review, so let me note just this tidbit: they never figured out how anyone could or should 'win' the game. In my current campaign, I have become King of Vlandia. My companions and I are top-leveled, my army vanquishes all it faces. Have we conquered the world? Hardly. Despite there being 7 other civilizations I have 13 active wars. Independent clans rear up from nowhere and proclaim me their enemy by raiding my farms. Cities erupt into rebellion. (BTW, I run an enlightened kingdom that doesn't load up taxes, denigrate minor clans, or hoard power to myself. I have no nobles deserting me.) The game is bereft of ideas. I will pay tribute to another kingdom to end a war I don't want, and they will break the peace and lose the tribute to attack me again, when I have multiples of their strength. I have taken all the perks that help you retain prisoners and my personal warband within my army is carrying 31 captured nobles. Every time I settle a war, my captives from that faction are set free, so I'm doing A LOT of fighting to retain that many. I am so sick of playing an hour and having 3 new wars foisted on me. I NEVER start them. Well. Just ONE issue with BannerLord. Among many. BTW - no idea about multi-player; I don't do that end.

A good game, in 10 years

We kept asking "Bannerlord when?" and we got Bannerlord. It's not what was shown originally, but it's still pretty and playable. Problem is: Why would you play it? Sure, it's got some nice features right out the box, features that weren't there in Warband, and sure, it looks good (mostly), but as another review mentions: What they got wrong was everything else. Important features are missing from WB: feasts and camping, from the top of my head. Courtship and marriage became even worse, and I'd argue that sexism in WB was also a feature, because it made your female character feel significant when you smacked a condescending lord for giving you lip. Now there's still sexism here, but it's hidden. Defeat a female warlord and release her by saying "You are not a warrior, you can leave". Such a joke. The clan system is a good idea, but its implementation is half-arsed. Most weapons feel like they're made of paper, and enemies hold so much loot that you can barely even carry it half the time. The randomly generated companions are another problem. Sure, it's nice to have fresh faces, but they're just utterly boring. In WB they shared backstories and bickered with each other, they commented on your actions, but here they're just... there. Smithing is tedious. Statecraft is confusing and messy, and the economy is just broken. But it's not all bad. TW does work on improving the game, it's just too slow. Just a few updates ago TW finally fixed the glaring issue of perks not working as intended. Updates are constant, but the problem is that they don't offer much beside small bug-fixes. No previously teased or showcased content is getting restored, and the continuity with WB is also confusing: WHERE IS ZENDAR?!?!? So yeah, the game will be good, just not in the nearest future.

Maybe in next 10 years it will be filled

Now its just empty shell with plastic combat. And every of small constant updates will make mods crashing. Even the fireplaces in castles haven't got chimneys = idiots designed the game. Definitely not worth more than 5 USD.

First impressions on this game

Not even sure what to say about this game. It seems like it probably is pretty good. I played almost 7 hours and I can't figure out how to do basic things like tell my guys to move or change formation. The buttons are on the screen, it tells me what to press, and either something else happens or nothing happens. After I got 20 units before battles another even more incomprehensible screen has appeared with almost no explaination on what its for, and when I issue a command a flag with an X comes up and nothing is happening. Have no idea whats going on. The tutorial took the bulk of my play time because the last of the three bandits you're supposed to track down kept disappearing and then you cant continue. I tried to start without the tutorial but that just made the game even more confusing to start. Maybe I'm just stupid or something, but this is one of the most confusing games I've ever played. Everything from the controls, quests that give you almost no clue what you're supposed to do, and the fact that they just dump you into this giant world with 10,000 different options and explanations of skills all at the same time but like, what is the objective of the game?? Some kids are missing? no idea. Like I get what the game is about, I didn't buy it blind. But the game gives you 0 indication besides showing you the very very basics like you can talk to a guy with a ! to get a quest. I'll play some more and I really would like to be able to have some cool battles on this game but unless I find a mod or something for the controls I probably will just eat the 30$ hide the game and never think about it again lol

Less content and somewhat Woke version of Warband

I have all the Mount & Blade games and Warband is far better to me that this Piece of junk. Things like getting nothing substantial from the risk of raiding towns. You get some food typically. If this is all you get, and you risk getting attacked, why would you just not let the AI do the raiding? Supporting armies is a lot harder in this game due to low rewards from raiding. Maybe they will fix that, but then you have little girl generals running around who look like they are barely 12 yrs old that takes away all seriousness of the game. This is not period authentic so it takes away from the feel 100%. Give a solid Joan of Arc type mentality and maybe I can buy that, but not this. I could go on but the point is if you are looking for a better Warband, this is not it. I gave it about 28 hours according to my Steam profile prior to going back to Warband.
