Excellent Sci-Fi Adventure

A classic adventure game. One of the few well-made FMV games, but not as well known as classics such as Wing Commander, Tex Murphey, or Gabriel Knight. The FMV portions are only at the beginning, end, and key moments throughout the story. They are well utilized. If you're familiar with Legend Entertainment, the majority of the game follows their adventure game format. For those that are not familiar with Legend, the game plays like an interactive novel, with logic puzzles to push the story forward. The puzzle design makes this game stand above many others in the genre. Most of the puzzles are not only logical but fit the environment and atmosphere of the game. Making the game flow in a way that feels natural, not forced. The story can be broken down into three acts. The first is repairing the Ship. The second explores the planet Persephone, and to avoid spoilers, i'm not going into the third act. The game also features an excellent tactical mini-game that builds on the experience where it could have easily been an interference. It comes up later in the game and makes sense to the world building. The game feels like an interactive sci-fi novel worthy of Clark or Heinlein. It may be over twenty years old, but it still holds up due to the art design. This is a game I find myself drawn back to every few years. The GOG version is solid. No sound issues, the video plays as smoothly as designed 20 years ago for contemporary technology. If you're looking for an immersive adventure game with excellent writing, give this one a chance. If you enjoy classic adventure games, this forgotten gem won't disappoint.

This is what Adventure Games should be

What an adventure game, what a story, what a production, simply amazing. This is a game that only Legend could make back in the golden days. An adventure game that plays so nicely nowadays after all these years! The story and writing are simply astonishing, the level of detail in the building of the world is unique, by far the strongest asset in the game. Puzzle design is good; the puzzles are there for a reason, not very hard, but they fit nicely to the story. Really nicely done FMV, good sound, the graphics are just fine for me. I will definitely replay it at some point to get a better understanding of some aspects of the story. The GoG build works flawlessly, cannot recommend this more!

What a find!

To be fair: not all games age well. Especially adventure games from the 90s tried to stretch game time by killing you off unexpectedly or allowing you to paint yourself into a corner. I'm all the more impressed with this game: It tells you to save often and while you can miss information or go down the wrong way it also will tell bluntly enough what you just did was wrong. The puzzle are more than fair and can be solved with logic. There are timed parts, but you get enough of a head start to find a solution. There is an strategic space-battle portion, but even there you can decide on the difficulty for yourself and let the computer resolve it on it's own. The Worldbuilding is good to great. It suffers a bit from a TLA-syndrome (three lettered acronyms), but other than that it's (mostly) hard sci-fi with no glaring plot holes. All in all a pleasant, round experience.

Unbelievably Great Sci-Fi DOS Game

This game takes the player back to a time when you used your brain to solve problems in game. When graphics did not diminish story and game content. What makes this game so great is the realism. The understanding of engineering, problem solving, and survival is required for any attempt to beat the game. Equally impressive is that the majority of gameplay exists within a plausible and legitimate imagining of the future of advanced spaceflight based on current (as of 1990s) understanding of technological scientific progression in that field. If you want a very cool looking DOS game and are really looking to challenge yourself, you would be hard-pressed to find such a well thought out and desinged space adventure. It's not hokey, cheesy, or nerdy. It's very professional. I can't give this game enough praise at all. Added Bonus: Michael Dorn stars as your Captain.

Unknown gem

This game has an epic story, hard but fair puzzles, graphics that aren't amazing but still ok by today's standards, and a small strategy mini-game (which can be played on easy where the compure apparently takes control ). All the Legend Entertainment point and click games are very good, but this one is their best one, along with Death Gate.
