Good, Despite Flaws
First, a hearty “Thank You” to the folks over at Primal Studios and Knights Peak for making your game available on GOG. I deeply believe in the mission of the GOG team, and the decision to make the game available on this platform is deeply appreciated. + Mandragora (hereafter referred to as MDG) features beautiful and distinct visuals that in time should age well. The game graciously walks the line between making a strong visual showing and not being too over the top. + Lore wise, MDG’s world of Faelduum is no Azeroth, Eora, or Faerûn, but this is not necessarily the type of game one buys for the depth of the story. Regardless, the lore has proved to be surprisingly engaging. Good voice acting, too. + Christos Antoniou along with the FILMharmonic Orchestra and Choir of Prague have succeeded in creating a stirring soundtrack. The deluxe edition is worth it for the soundtrack alone, the cute pets and pretty transmog are just a bonus. Also, great work on the soundtrack's cover art. - Regarding difficulty, many bosses in the game can feel very overtuned across all difficulty settings. Fall damage feels cheap. This all can feel frustrating and not in a fun way. - Bosses are too often recycled. Mechanics can sometimes be unimaginative. - No achievements, here on GOG at least. IN CONCLUSION Beautiful world, engaging lore, memorable toons, nice gear, fun spells & talent trees, [mostly] fun platforming, and a nice soundtrack -- this is a game that I can highly recommend and was worth both the asking price and the considerable time I've put into it so far. That said, I will be deducting one star from an otherwise perfect rating due to bosses being too frequently reused, overtuned fights, annoying fall damage, and lack of achievements. Final Verdict: Buy the Game!
