Enjoyable, but not for everybody

Loria is title which will cause different reactions - and surprisingly, both negative and positive will be totally justified. On the one hand, it's extremelly obvious "clone" of Warcraft II (in terms of graphics) and Warcraft III, in terms of mechanics (it has solutions which are openly, directly "borrowed" from Warcraft III, like 3 heroes for every side with 10 levels and 4 skills, having "upkeep cost" decreasing amount of gathered gold). Even skirmish maps and their formula (map with magic items guarderd by neutral monsters) is so "close" to original Warcraft III, that it's impossible to miss it. So, at this point probably quite a lot of players would reject this game, some of them probably with the experience that usually too "direct" rip-offs are usually worse than original, and don't have too much original elements to get your attention. Yet, somehow, Loria manages to be entertaining game, with its "Warcraft 2,5" formula. And it's not easy to explain. Maybe because it's very accessible from the very beginning and focused on providing "pure fun" from gameplay, without additional distraction? Maybe it's the exotic appearance of "eastern Warcraft II/III clone"? Or just the fact, that in its basis it is correctly made RTS, which is providing not especially original plot, style etc, but is doing right what should be done correctly in every RTS game? it's hard to tell, but Loria somehow brought good impression. It's nothing original, but I still want to discover history of Iron Lord and just enjoy this "warcraft-esque" style of gameplay. it's a shame that it's not close to Kingdom Under Fire, which had it's own, unique style, but it's still enjoyable. Warning for everyone - there is no multiplayer nor map editor (although MP is announced to be made in future), so it is a bit too humble in its content. I'm on a "boarder" between 3 and 4 stars. But eventually gave 1 more star, because I've enjoyed this game. Better try demo before buying, choice is not obvious!

Unity Analytics/Facebook Module Beware

I don't blame devs for this as they likely don't know, but the fact these spywares are there needs to be known

Wanted to love it, but ...

Note: I played the demo, and was able to experience the gameplay and the mechanics but not the story. I was waiting for years for someone to remake Warcraft 2 to work with modern resolutions. It made me very happy to hear about Loria and as soon as the demo came out, I dug right in. Graphically it's essentially a mix of a 2D tile-set from Warcraft 2 and 3D buildings from Warcraft 3. The result isn't so bad although the maps do feel a little flat and barren at times. Unfortunately the developer felt the need to include other elements from Warcraft 3, namely the heroes and the items, which (in my eyes) don't make the game any better. (Remember, I wanted Warcraft 2, not Warcraft 3.) In the end, even though it evoked some feelings of nostalgia, the my overall experience was more negative than positive. Others may feel differently, and I don't blame them, but I chose not to buy it and just went to play some more low-res Warcraft 2 instead.

You're better off playing WC2 again

As someone who grew up on WC1 and Blizzard games in general, this is quite the eyesore. I'm glad I picked it up while it was free, otherwise this would have been a lightning fast refund. 1, Everything is clunky, in ways that even WC1 isn't. Normally, if your units blob up or get in a weird line, you can micro them around nicely. Here, each time you give a new order to a unit, it staggers, meaning that if you're used to microing like mad during a battle (as you should be), you're actually hindering your units. 2, In a mission, my hero got stuck standing still, unable to participate in the rest of the map. However, it wasn't a problem because... 3, ... heroes feel unnecessary. Every map is the same: max out your supply, attack, lose half your dudes becaues the AI keep rebuilding towers behind you, which is a kinda neat tactic albeit somewhat autistic, replenish, repeat. Sometimes you can include a kind of World War 1 trench warfare step, where you put towers down during an attack on the enemy base so that you can catch a breather as enemy troops and peasants keep trickling in. 4, I couldn't find anything to enjoy. I had to use cheats to speed things along because after the trailer, I expected something grand but... there's nothing. Story and characters are so bad it's like the plot and their lines were written on toilet paper and coasters during breaks. I really wanted to like this game. :(

Loria in GREAT evolution

The studio just wanted to realize a small STR with a modern engine: Unity. for those passionate about the genre, who have been forgotten for years. They have again announced improvements. More factions, new units, a multiplayer mode consider! A great game that is progressing, you have to encourage them to continue the adventure. Demo :) You can try the game. For such a small price... if we can help them. One BIG reproach! The Linux version, currently supported by the Loria studio... was not planned! It was realized by an independent in 2 days.... thank you Tchey, good work. Without Linux, I would have paid no attention to this game! Today... I bought it and it’s one of my favourites! Finally a Linux Native RTS on GOG! It’s the first, the only! Just the translations are missing, in the menus! And it will be complete!
