Description
Human Resource Machine is a puzzle game for nerds. In each level, your boss gives you a job. Automate it by programming your little office worker. If you succeed, you'll be promoted up to the next level for another year of work in the vast office building. Congratulations!

Don't worry if you've never programmed before - programming is just puzzle solving. If you strip away all the 1's and 0's and scary squiggly brackets, programming is simple, logical, beautiful, and something that anyone can understand and have fun with! Are you already an expert? There will be extra challenges for you.

Have fun! Management is watching.
  • Learn to program inside a giant computer made of humans. You'll be taught everything you need to know.
  • Already an expert? Each level comes with Optimization Challenges - difficult (and optional) challenges that test how well your solution optimizes for program size and execution speed.
  • From the creators of Little Inferno and World of Goo.

Welcome Human...

The Human Resource Machine at heart is an interesting premise, you task your human drone to following key instructions that build throughout the levels, in an effort to stop the machines taking your job. It starts of really simple, while still keeping challenges available throughout every level and providing a little bit of character building background with every new floor. You'll meet some...interesting characters on your journey up the building and it wont be long before you're treated to some excellently delivered background on the world beyond your office. The ascetic is exactly what you'd expect from the Tomorrow Corporation, having previously designed and developed World of Goo and Little Inferno, and this simple look and style is once more accompanied by a great sound track and effects that suit the feel perfectly. The plot unfolds much as it has done in the previous games, leaving much to your own devices and covering a range of material without dwelling overtly too long on any one subject. By the end, I felt, I'd wrapped up another nice little adventure and was pretty satisfied with the entire package. The bonus take away was better understanding some key aspects of programming languages, and having really had a good crack at some damn fine challenges to boot. If you enjoyed World of Goo or Little Inferno I'd highly recommend this little charming puzzler, and even if those didn't quite gel, this new take on a simple but evolving mechanic might just be the ticket to introduce you to the world of the Tomorrow Corporation and their fine staple of games.

An exercise in programming

I have a degree in computer science, so I play for 100% optimisation. My wife does not, so she plays to finish. Both of us enjoy the game tremendously. Wholeheartedly recommended.

Excellent for the right sort of nerd

Clever little programming-themed puzzle game. You don't need to know programming to like it, but having to work with the game's very limited library of commands gives you a lot of appreciation for how much easier coding can be when you're not worried about the actual physical spots on the floor where you're storing data. Not a particularly long game, unless you're obsessive about optimal solutions and optional challenges, which are extremely challenging and might only appeal to the diehards.

Excellent puzzle game

An excellent logic puzzle game. Lost track of time while playing. Could use more levels, or the possibility of user made levels.

Great Concept

Human Resource Machine is the next game by Tomorrow Corporation and has a similar look to Little Inferno, and has an equally high play value. I have never seen a puzzle game which takes elements of coding and programming and somehow makes it more fun and addicting than programming. Currently i am a programming Student and always liked the challenges of creating algorithms or problem solvers in my free time, so of course, this game sucked me in immediately and made it more challenging by limiting the possible actions to a few simple ones. I still think it is suited for everyone, the puzzles are challenging but can be overcome with a little thinking or a whole lot of try and error testing. Overall great game which makes you lose the track of time, but i would like to see player made levels or more optional challenges.
