One of the greatest Video Game Stories
Before the Sci-Fi epics of Battle Star Galactica, Mass Effect and Halo there was a strategy game by Relic that infused a gripping narrative and setting with some of smoothest RTS gameplay you can get. The story at first is a very confrontational one; you are a race of exiles forced to return home after your entire civilization was mercilessly obliterated when you entered hyper-space for the first time. There is no way out. if you fail at your task, everyone dies and all the sacrifices made in vain. Obviously Homeworld is not an easy game, its you versus a galactic empire that's taken residence on your planet and they aren't willing to negotiate. Homeworld's combat is similar to other 4X strategy games, mostly because Relic pioneer it. However, victory in Homeworld isn't achieved through destroying your opponents but by capturing them. Even if you're extremely miserly with resources, you'll never be able to field or afford enough Ion Array Frigates, Destroyers and Capital ships to stand a chance against the Taidanii homeguard. So get ready to save, load and defend your salvage corvettes as they capture a whole fleet worth of enemy ships. An interesting dynamic emerges where you work to defeat the enemy without them loosing salvageable ships, since having a couple Heavy Cruisers makes some later missions MUCH more manageable. My only complaint with this remastering is the lack of Cataclysm, easily one of the best expansion packs made. Imagine Dead Space and Star Trek.
