Everyone who loves EE2 should install Unofficial Patch 1.5 from this link: http://www.ee2.eu/t1723-ee2-1.5
Over 25 000 people installed it, and everyone is happy.
Don't play EE2 in the windowed mode, because it makes a big performance loss. Unofficial Patch 1.5 supports ALL possible screen resolutions (including 4k). I even created a custom screen resolution generator, so no matter what - you will be able to play the game on Windows 8 / 8.1 / 10+ in the full screen mode. The patch also fixes a lot of game crashes, has better camera settings, free camera mode and "hide user interface" hotkeys and a lot of more features.

Greetings.
Well, what can I say. RTS fans have a good day here. What's better than losing an entire day to the ebb and flow of an epic battle - "I've got him now, he can't resist this final push!"
Age Of Empires 2 Age of Kings, Empire Earth 2, and Rise of Nations - these were a series of games I'm dying to get back into my hands in a convenient DRM-free fashion. For the historical RTS - and read that again, RTS (it's not Civ. If you want Civ, buy Civ) this was one of the staples. Here are some pros and cons, especially as compared to EE1:
Pros: The graphics are mildly improved, but truthfully a little low detail compared to some of today's highly textured game models. The interface is much improved; selecting idle workers and assigning tasks is much nicer, the tech tree is a little more cleanly exposed, and the icon/tooltip layout is much more helpful. (I hadn't played EE1 back in the day - bought EE1 recently because EE2 wasn't out yet - figuring out upgrades/required building progressions was a challenge). EE2 makes it much nicer. Many customization options on the random map setup screen. The bonus (i.e. first player to next age) system is interesting. Runs decently well on an old lappy (ran fine on a Pentium M 1500, 512MB Ram, ATI Raedon 32MB 7500) system.
Cons: Pathfinding is occasionally an issue. If it bugs you, yes, you'll occasionally encounter cavemen vs tanks situations. Graphics again - well, they're decent, especially compared to some other classics such as Starcraft or Age of Kings. They hold up better, but nothing spectacular.
If you're an RTSer, buy it - and steer clear of EE3! (They dumbed EE3 down in response to people who said EE2 - with 15 or so civs and about 100 minor upgrades to pick from per civ) was too complex.
GOG - Thank you thank you thank you - I've been waiting for this since you released EE1!
I'd give 4.5 stars really - it wasn't a perfect game, but an epic RTS, I wasted days of my life on it, and imho one of the best RTS options on here at the moment.
This is a pretty good RTS, but despite it's pretty visuals and new mechanics it doesn't seem to feel like the true successor to one of the best RTS games... For one, it feels much too easy compared to the first one. The AI can be easily conquered in maybe an hour or two. Don't get me wrong, it still makes a good game. The territories are an interesting new idea, tech points make researching more friendly, and battles look a lot more lively with the better graphics. Overall, if you want a decent RTS game, pick this up. If you want a GREAT RTS game, pick up EE1.
Played skirmish with 8 players..my "ally" comes to my base starts building fortifications towers and resource buildings...the AI also brought in its forces..i was like:"COOL!HES GONNA HELP ME!HES GONNA DEFEND ME" 2 mins later my "ally"becomes aggresive towards me and completely destroys me with the forces it had brought in to "defend me" BACKSTABBING FUCKING AI
10/10 not as good as the first one but still rlly good
This game to this day is brilliant. It IS the final succesor to the older Age of Empires series. I finally bought this game here on GOG out of respect for my DVD version, and GOG is easier even though the CDs continue to run fine onWin10. Huge brackets to set up from stone age to future tech. Bigger maps, and endless possabilities of scenarieos. Been playing computes since the Atari 800, and I play this game, not out of nostalgia, but because it's one of the best games RTS ever made. I'm looking at you 40,000K.
