Lovely game you'll firstly hate 2 times

DoM is basically a lone battle, even you can play parts made scenario. It can be play both sides, German (the game is rather made to play them) or Russian, with different difficulties by choosing the historical general who will be your AI opponent. It is tactically simple, with reinforcement and supply zone, but is strategically very though for the German when you're newb'. You think the game is unbalanced, until you discover the good strategy. Then you think the game is unba in the reverse way, moreover that there is a lone strategy... However, the beauty of the game becomes, in the lone good strategy, is to try succeding it the more perfectly, as there is a Victory Points scale. Too, you can play Russian, where the strategy is far more reactive. In the end, after I had hated twice the game (too difficult, then too easy), it's finally very pleasant to launch campaign, and it's my prefered game in this serie by the devs. The remaining drawback I find, is that taking Moscow is a sudden death victory, and I feel it's not very historical nor very good gameplay, so I try to win without taking it! If the game was a tiny less expensive, I'l give them 5 stars. So, sure buy it, at least in a sale!

Great game!

Same as the iOS version, DoM is an enjoyable strategic wargame for short sessions. Scenario accuracy and polished UI make this game very good. FYI I installed it on Mac using Wine, with the GoG installer without any issue. Hope Shenandoah Studio will also polished and re-release Desert Fox, another game like DoM and Battle for the Bulge, from the same developers.

Excellent combination

This game attempts to simulate the battles of Briansk and Mozhaisk during the period of Sept 30 Thru December 8, 1941. There is a possibility of capturing Moscow or Klin. The Game purports to be date-specific and accurate as possible. To do this, it uses a turn system based on "impulses" and "weather events." Unlike the actual battles of Bryansk and Mozhaisk, the game stops on December 14 after Marshall Konev launches a series of counter-attacks on the helpless, frozen German army. In a game of this size, it is impossible to provide a "simulation" of the historic events so what you get is a very rewarding, well-made game with lots of variety and outcomes. However, the weather system is problematic because it ignores historic conditions in favor of the random weather events and the impulse system. Weather played a major role in this battle on Nov 15 (ground freezes allowing Germany to move quickly) and December 10 (frigid weather affects German supply lines). The German army should bog down beginning on Nov 15 (Turn 14) while the Soviets should both attack and lose considerable manpower and supply starting on Dec 5 (Turn 15). These are The game covers the battles of Briansk and Mozhaisk over 22 turns, each lasting about 72 hours. It is enjoyable and fun. The balance is meant to favor the Germans but the Soviet counter attacks and reinforcements in turns 19-22 make it a fairly even conflict. Historically, both armies were depleted by December 10 The best strategy is to build strength in selected map sectors and avoid battles before. The turns cover these battles in rough sequence: Turns 1-5: Battle of Briansk Turns 6-9: Battle of Mozhaisk Turns 10-20: "Zukhov's counter-attack" and battles/retreats around Klin and Ryzhev Turns 21-22: battle of Moscow / German retreat

Ok but not more

Ok, but not more. Do not like that the troops have fixed placements. You should be able to position your troops freely at the beginning of the game. Now it is like you have to learn a pattern that is the same every game. Also very strange balancing. Tanks are not that powerful and motorized troops are so weak that their only advantage is speed. But this is rarly useful because of the initial placements of the units (a placement that you can not control). Would be better game with more freedom for the placements of troops.
