A beautiful psychological journey

The setting in the game is at a wonderful Norwegian Fjord. The game has a very beautiful setting all over. The way I will say what the game is about is a psychological journey as you are looking for your lost sister. You can compare this to a game like "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter". You walk around looking for clues to what have happened in different stages. While exploring you can find extra information about what could be going on even if it is a bit limited as certain areas are unlocked in stages. The music and sounds are very good and fits well. The voice-overs are good. An excellent game.

Only have the base game, but...

I truly hope this game gets a sequel. Draugen is secretly about an important time in the two characters' lives, rather than the telegraphed plot twist. I loved it, and I loved the cast.

Decent yet overpriced walking sim

So I just finished Draugen which took about 3.5 hours, including trying to really enjoy the artwork and reading the letters etc. that you find on your journey. Draugen is a tale about a man who comes to an abandoned norwegian village to find his sister along with his companion Lissie. Lissie is both charismatic and her inclusion makes Draugen feel more interactive than other walking sims. The voice acting and the the music are both great and the game is rather pretty but that about sums up all the good things. The actual story is a very banal tale that has been told oh, so many times before. Something bad has happened, try to puzzle together what and how. The surroundings are indeed beautiful but the village is also the only thing there is to see: you re-visit the same few houses to collect new clues at a snail's pace. The asking price for this game is simply way too high since there is zero reason to replay the game and very little actual gameplay. 10 euros would've been more reasonable: I bought the game at 50 % discount and I still feel like I payed too much.

Solid story, writing and VA work.

I remember first learning about Draugen, when it was supposed to be more of a horror type game, or at least that's how it was originally described (in summary). At some point, I guess they decided to shorten it into more of an interactive story . So, while I was bummed about that, I still had hope for it, because it's written by one of my favorite creative minds, Ragnar Tornquist. I've been a fan of his since "The Longest Journey", and that series, as well as "The Secret World" (though Funcom managed to screw it up, because Funcom can't seem to not screw up their MMOs.. but I digress...). I also could sense his thumbprint on Anarchy Online. So, I expected - if nothing else - a really engaging story with interesting characters. I wasn't disappointed. I took a star off the review for three reasons: 1. It's not the game I was expecting, based on early descriptions. 2. It's very short. I went straight through in about 3 hours. 3. $20 is a bit steep, considering reason 2. There is a note at the end of the credits that gives me hope for another title. Maybe that will be more in line with the game originally described. Here's hoping! In any case, if you want an interesting, not over-long mystery with solid writing and voice acting, you could do much worse than to spend a few hours in Graavik.
