As the title says, years later, they added a custom launcher that gates from launching the game and requires an external account to launch with no obvious way to skip this step.
The launcher is pointless, especially when the game is on a DRM free platform.
Thankfully GoG Galaxy 2.0 allows you to roll back a patch, so for now, I will remain on the last actually DRM Free patch.
This was done for all three of their largest games, DoS I, DoS II and BG3.
I am extremely dissatisfied with this change as it offers nothing to and breaks a promise made to the customer, as much as I love their games and appreciate them as a studio, I cannot support Larian on this.
This game is a truly awesome experience. You get to adventure how you want, at your own pace. You can choose what to do, and what to avoid. Your character will shape your interactions with the world. I highly recommend playing as one of the Origin characters, which will shape your journey even more. (The Red Prince is my favorite) The switch between real time exploration and turn-based combat is marvelously done, there's loot abound, and there's really nothing about this game that I don't love. I sincerely recommend snagging a copy.
TL;DR for those who played DOS2 and want to decide whether it's worth playing DE for new content:
Cons:
* You'll barely notice any changes
* Endings (Mass Effect 3 syndrome) were not changed
* Initiative system is still as irritating and unrewarding to players as before
GOG edition Cons:
* DOS2:DE is a bit unpolished now, and every time a patch is released GOG has You downloading 30 GB of data...
Temporary Cons:
* Many DLL mods don't work, including trader inventory refresh
* There's no official editor yet
Pros:
* The game is as fun as previously + You get a Squirrel now
* One new quest, "eh, at least it's something"
I have to admit that the game did not change as much as I expected, this is more of a big patch with a little bit of refinement than a 3rd Act Overhaul.
What most people found irritating is the ending of the game, it still is quite disappointing and that makes me sad, I thought that the first priority for Larian would be to deepen the ending, add post ending slides or something to highlight what kind of impact did the player have upon the world, sadly this did not happen.
Awful round robin initiative system is still in place, this is quite discouraging, I thought they'd reflect upon this weird choice.
Also, the inventory system is still quite enfuriating, why give us lots of items that cause the trader inventories to load forever in the latter half of the game, I still don't think that this is the right choice.
So, moving on from the irritations and plain bad things, the game is still as addictive and lighthearted as when I played it for the first time, I'm writing this after a full 60h playthrough of DOS2:DE so... It has to do a lot of things right. Combat system, customizations, deep characters that were lacking in DOS1. Months, if not literally years of blood, sweat and tears had to go into the development of all of this.
So it's a 4 out of 5, not the perfect RPG but still a great experience.
Hi Guys, Divinity Original Sin 2 is arguably the best turn-based RPG ever created. The AI combat system is so intelligent you quite honestly have to normally turn it down a bit to normal settings to get a monster that can think like a human being otherwise you're dealing with a higher intelligence than most players. The story is amazing the quests are handcrafted and the dialogue meaningful. This game and Witcher 3 are probably the best RPG's to be created since Baldurs Gate 2 back almost 20 years ago. It's a must buy and I've put in 270 hours and still find it very enjoyable and look forward to restarting from level one with the new Definitive Edition version. If there EVER was a game to buy it's this game. Larian Studios team are some of the most wonderful people too. During the beta I was always given feedback from them when I voiced an opinion. They are very very appreciative and respectful to the community that supports them and these guys live the life. They (Larion Studios team) are first and foremost gamers themselves and are creating these games because they want the perfect game to enjoy themselves. I really hope they CREATE DLC's to go with this one I would easily spend $19.99 for a large DLC or $29.99 for an entire expansion. Hint hint!!! You could build on this platform for a decade and it would not get old. Thanks for making one of the greatest RPGs of all time. When you think of great RPG's a decade ago or two ago you would think of Bioware or Origins but in 2018, you think of CD Projekt Red & Larian Studios.
I'm a huge fan of the ideas of the old ultima games. A coulourful (!) world to explore, combined with some meta-philosophical themes, that's really what got me hooked back in the days and now once more.
lots of these good ideas are to be found in this game for a new. Adding many many new ideas and mechanics- But this time without clunky controls. So...to make it quick, original sin 2 is the best rpg I (!) played since the good old days. It's the best ultima game that Richard Garriott himself was not able to produce ... :-)
