Description
Kisaragi Academy student Mayu Suzumoto is transferring to a new high school, leaving behind a sizable group of friends and countless lovely memories. To help her cope with this move, her friend Ayumi has devised a seemingly innocent plan: the whole group will come together to perform a charm she found on the internet called “Sachiko Ever After,” which is supposed to bind all of its participants together as friends to the end.

This does not go as expected.

Corpse Party is the original Windows edition of the cult classic horror game that gained a considerable fanbase when released on Sony’s PlayStation®Portable system in 2011. Beginning life as an independent RPG Maker adventure title in 1996, the gameplay was greatly refined and the story greatly expanded for this 2008 iteration, featuring more characters, more detailed interactions, darker story elements, over 5,000 lines of voice-acting and dozens of shocking, gruesome endings. Players take control of nine main characters and several side characters who’ve been split up into groups of two or three and trapped in a run-down, otherworldly elementary school full of vengeful spirits, deadly mysteries and – of course – corpses. As they walk around examining objects and bodies in an atmospheric 2D environment, a horror tale spanning over 50 years begins to unfold, and player choices determine both how the story ends and who lives to see it through.
  • Highly Detailed Retro-Style Graphics Used to Enhance Atmosphere
  • Adventure-Style Gameplay Where Your Decisions Make All the Difference
  • Chapter-Based Storytelling with PC-Exclusive Content and a retelling of the “Tooth” story from Corpse Party: Book of Shadows
  • Original Japanese Voice Cast and Character Art plus Text Skip Feature

Insert pun here

Students. School. And the paranormal. If you dislike having any of those three in your horror, then you probably won't like this either. If it's the opposite, then this is the most complete and polished version available of an effective little game and worth getting. If you don't know what this style of game is like, then first try one of the plentiful Japanese freeware horror games to get a feel for the genre.

Not bad but let me tell you something...

THIS IS NOT 1996 version, stop confusing others. THIS IS 2008 version. If you think this the graphics is worse, you might be compare this game with PSP port Repeated Fear. 1996 version is good but there is some problems: 1. There is only DOS and some Amiga video games (not including Win/Lin/Mac, of course); 2. That version was never translated (but remastered version is translated). That's why we'll never see 1996 version here, and it's bad. But maybe, they'll publish the remastered version, and that'll be cool.

A Great Horror Game

Corpse Party is a classic Japanese Horror game, that traces its roots back to the age of PC-98. The game was created by a small group of enthusiasts, and has great atmosphere, good story, unusual ways to make you uneasy, and it did scare the crap out of me a couple times. Remember that this is not a PSP/3DS version with 5pb's art and voices, but maybe you'll find this version more pleasing. While graphics are minimal and gameplay is outright archaic, the music, sense of horror and character development more than makes up for it. The story is touching, deeply developed and at the time was a fresh new concept. If you're of easily scared type, Corpse Party is gonna haunt you for weeks. Be sure to pick this up, especially if you're into obscure Japanese games or looking for a game to film your next let's play video.

Putter my Booper

A classic indie J-horror game featuring a tense, macabre story that isn't afraid to explore taboo and obscene subject matter. It is important to note that this is a re-release of the 2008 remake of the original Corpse Party from 1996, I would recommend playing the PSP or 3DS versions if you'd rather have better quality character sprites and more CGs. That being said, I still highly recommend this version.

Not playable without a guide

The story sounds interesting, but the game is severely held back by its RPG Maker gameplay where you slowly walk through multiple areas back and forth spamming "use" on everything hoping to trigger the next story scene.
