I wish it would be better!
Collapsed looks great. I instantly got hooked after watching the trailer thus spending the small amount of money it asks for. The first impression was rather devastating. The controls feel slightly off and the decision to include aim with the right stick doesn't help at all. To compare this with Dead Cells clearly comes to my mind and whilst I like the setting of Collapsed, it simply can't compete.. There is a choice between 4 distinct classes which resemble the allrounder, sniper, bruiser and a somewhat rogue-like character. I like the looks and the different playstyles they add. Once I got used to the controls the game started to make more fun. It is a grind which has a story at its core. You might stumble over some text snippets in the different encounters. Speaking of those, they always follow the same rule. Enter a biome and find portals. There are 3 in each level (so far) but only one is the true portal, leading the way to the next level or eventually to a boss. I died a couple of times, mostly due to problems with controls. Dying however doesn't feel to punishing. You get to keep the equipment you fund and get the chance to invest certain items into a skilltree, unlocking a vast multitude of buffs and items. It looks like a great variety which might come with a big grind as well. For now, I started to like Collapsed. Once you get the hang of the controls and found your prefered playstyle - I chose the sniper and found some augments to make his shots piercing - it really starts to shine. Loot can be shared between different save games which is a great option to keep equipment another class might find more useful. I really wish the controls would feel a little bit tighter which would improve the overall experience. Still, it is a nice indie rogue-lite that doesn't cost too much.
