A fun restaurant sim w/ minor issues

First the gameplay is smooth and overall it has the basics down solidly. The tutorial is pretty comprehensive, and the various aspects of the game work smoothly. I especially like the fact that you can redecorate floor/wall color and texture for no cost, because sometimes it is hard to see what a pattern will really look like from the thumbnail. (the paint job does not affect your decoration rating, so it's purely personal preference.) There are a few minor text issues in some of the (in game) reviews and item descriptions, and one piece of furniture is completely bugged showing something like "asset number 1240" instead of a name. The main thing that I am disappointed in occurs as you progress from one location to multiple locations. The game only allows you to manage one location at a time, which is fine, but for some reason despite everything going very profitably when I left it, my initial restaurant drops about 2/3 of it's profit (from about 2500 a day to 800) when I moved to the next one with no explanation of why, the sales just drop. Since I was counting on that steady income to support my expansion it was a bit of a kick in the teeth. Thankfully I saved before opening my second place, so I will just run the first one for a while and build up a larger bankroll. Overall the game is a good little timewaster that I've sunk about 15 hours into over the past week and it still has my interest, so I would say it is worth the purchase price.

There is potential hidden somewhere...

This game should still be early access as there are quite a few issues. Even things as simple as a button that sometimes doesn't work until you click on it a few times. I can't get my second star even though the orders stats shows every order to be above the average needed. Some customers say they wait too long "to ." I get many more reviews showing poor service when the game speed is increased. The main stat popularity still increases so nothing I've seen is strictly game breaking so far but might be later. There are other annoyances, such as the menu price resetting to the ingredient price every time you make a change (quite a bit if you try to increase recipe quality after every few ingredient quality unlocks). An "increase quality in all recipes that use this ingredient" button would save a bunch of time. You can make an all-vegan menu (but you can't complete the tutorial with a vegan menu, although the tutorial tab under the stats menu has more useful info anyway), however you never designate a restaurant as vegan and still see all the non-vegan ingredients. The designers seem to think tofu tastes horrible and doesn't go with anything. There are distinct "flavor" and "taste" stats for custom recipes. The flavor has a couple of indicators to figure out what ingredients to combine (and does not depend on quantity) but the taste both depends on exact quantity (I have a low-dpi mouse setting that I need to use to get the best values) and lacks hints about what the developers want you to use together. So a lot of trial and error and minute adjustment of sliders. The building aspect is minimal but it is nice to decorate. For kitchen items there is usually one particular item of each type that is clearly better than the others. The overall flow of the game is reasonable and it is relaxed and addictive. I think with a higher budget the game could be quite good and could be decent with just bug fixes. I recommend avoiding it until the bugs are fixed.

Great game and expanding

I purchased the game at 1.0 release. SO far can't complain at all. The gameplay is straight. The tutorial guides you very well. The devs are very friendly and helpful and listen to the community, which I do respect very much! The gameplay itself is easy explained. You select a site and size for restaurant and than you do fill your menu. You can use pre-made recipes or use your custom recipes, whichI strongly suggest. Before you start makeing yur own dishes think about who you want serve. You have no pedigree and your first customers are Cheapskates, which just want NOM for a cheap price. You can't make an expensive beef stew or steak. You need to be costeffective-stuffing. So target groups are a thing. You start off with cheapskate customers. They like yummy cheap food like Pasta. After some time you are popular (by customers reviews) and attract more interesting customers, like vegetarians or families. Even later Gourmets and Food Enthusiasts. They all pay more cash for good food (high quality stuff!). So upgrade your ingredients quality and expand your influence into other districts of the region (city map with districts which can attract more customers from outside). The ingredients are in a seperate window and you add them easily to recipe editor. The recipe editor has a guidance feat to help you make the dish you want and is fairly easy to use. You also want to upgrade your skills and that your employees do not overwork themselves. Have enough waiters/chefs, 4 tables for a waiter works for me. You can specialize employees to certain tasks too. The interior of the Restaurant can be decorated in many ways and you have no restrictions. Customer groups want different interior ratings (modern, elegant or rustic) so add a good mix of different items. There is also policies you can apply and also ads to attract certain customer types. In a whole a solid game for me and starts where Restaurant Tycoon left off. Thanks, keep it up and great Job so far!

Fun....but feels imcomplete.

I just started playing and I admit that I haven't gotten too far into yet. So far, I do enjoy Chef. Tons of options to fine tune your restaurants and the ability to make your own dishes seems awesome (I haven't tried it yet, but did look it over). My main issues with the game is that it just "feels" not done. Some of the animations are not smooth. Example: sometimes chefs will take finished dishes to the service window...sometimes they won't and they'll just appear there. Also, the kitchen operation looks half done. Storage and refrigeration are not required items to have. So food just.....appears. Refrigerators can be purchased but they just give a buff. Dish washing? Non existent. And, on top of that, you can set various policies, one is bathroom cleanliness. But, you can't build any bathrooms, but customers will complain if they're not cleaned anyway...lol. It all just feels a bit.......off. I got the game on sale for $11.99 and I had a $2.25 credit, so it was worth THAT price. So, yeah, wait for another good sale.

There's a lot of room for improvement.

The whole user interface is kind of loose. It really impedes being able to enjoy the underlying game. The relationships of the mechanics of the variables seem as though they meant well, but ultimately feel very unrealistic. Trying to treat this game with the same approach to how a restauraunt functions in reality will leave you rather unsatisfied.
