Castle on the Coast is a hand-drawn, retro 3D collectathon that casts you as an adorable, parkouring giraffe named George!
Castle on the Coast is a bedazzling collectathon arcade platformer. George, a friendly giraffe, parkours through challenging levels full of crystal caverns, stone-laden halls, and trippy alternate dimensions, trying to bring together a family of the two powerful, conflicted wizards. In the co-op mode, he can use help from his squirrel friend called Swirlz.
Thanks to cooperation mode, even the youngest gamers will be able to enjoy George’s adventures, playing together with their friends or their sitters. Besides all the arcade fun, Castle on the Coast offers a more serious, moral angle. It will touch upon dealing with loss, conflict, and loving your enemies.
VALLEY CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
George the Giraffe is the official mascot of Valley Children’s Hospital in California. George has symbolized the love and care found at Valley Children’s there for nearly seven decades. “Adopted” as the hospital’s mascot by its five founding mothers, a giraffe was chosen because they have the largest heart of any land mammal. And that heart is present in the care provided at Valley Children’s every single day. Now, thanks to the cooperation between Valley Children’s, Big Heart Productions, and Klabater, the beloved giraffe will debut in a video game!
A magic castle entrenched in conflict
Help George explore the magical Castle on the Coast, home to crystal caverns, stone laden halls, and trippy alternate dimensions. Seamlessly wander from level to level with no loading screens in a large, interconnected world.
All is not well in this land, however. Two powerful wizards bear a grudge against their fellow orphans. Can George bring this family back together again, or will he just get in the way?
A cute giraffe with XTREME PARKOUR POWERS!?
This giraffe can get anywhere, anytime! String together wall runs, wall jumps, spins, dives, rolls, and more with responsive controls. Carve new paths through levels in a quest to frustrate level designers. When cool moves aren't enough, don a jetpack or a rocket powered car to reach new heights.
A 3D collectathon
Shove a plethora of goodies down your pockets as you explore! Flowers unlock new costumes, star keys unlock doors, and keystones... those unlock the looming central tower...
A nutty sidekick joins the mix
Player 2 can control George's sidekick: Swirlz the flying squirrel! Create helpful springy flowers, blast enemies with magic, or become a living parachute to slow George's descent. When George and Swirlz work together, nothing is impossible!
Being the official mascot of Valley Children’s Hospital, George symbolizes love and care found at Valley Children’s. Being a hero for children for nearly 70 years, he was involved in many activities and projects. Now he’ll put smiles on their faces as a protagonist of the video game Castle on the Coast. A portion of the sales revenue will support the Valley Children's Hospital programs, which provide Central California’s only high-quality, comprehensive care exclusively for children, from before birth to young adulthood.
So, this is quite a simple 3D platform game, where you need to collect flowers, star-shaped crystals, etc. in diferent environments. It is built using the Unreal Engine 4 with an added cell-shaded effect, like in comic books/cartoon movies.
My nieces (8 years old) love it, the giraffe it works great with two generic X-Input gamepads. The flying squirell is super cute too 😊, that works in co-op mode. The second player can help reach these crystals etc. on longer dinstances.
We didn't encounter any game-breaking bugs, there were some see through graphical elements (cliptroughs/clipping or whatever it is called/ here and there, but never had a situation, that the character(s) fall trough). If you have smaller children or any younger family member, give it a try, it is definitely worth it.
Works very good on Ryzen 3350G with integrated Radeon VEGA 10, 16GB RAM, Windows 10 21H1, Full HD (1920 x 1080 px resolution).
A super cute gem that is perfect for teaching the nephews and nieces how to game. Filled to the brim with cute little touches and areas to explore. Music is lovely and the characters are delightful.
A++ Kids game, super fun and doesn't try to sell them things just focusses on a great experience.
Highly recommended.
Holy shit this is a fun game. Also great for children.
Don't let the graphics fool you, don't let the idea that this was made for kids fool you, this is a fantastic game!!
The graphic may look questionable in pictures but the game has a real charm to it once you start playing, the voice acting is also so much fun. The way the game does movement and how it does not penalize you for it yet still has a layer of challenge to it really makes it stand out from other games, you have to experience it because its just so much fun. Levels feel great to explore. This is a game that does not bother the player with any bullshit.
I bet its also a great game for your younger children, get it for them.
This game controls like a charm, which is essential with 3d platformers. The physics are floaty, sometimes even slightly janky but the game is made with that in mind and isn't too hard to begin with so the quirks, rather than being an annoyance, end up opening the way to new fun modes of traversal by abusing the engine in clever ways. The game is both forgiving to less skilled players while offering a decent challenge in terms of speedrunning.
The cute and colorful graphics are very reminiscent of A Hat in Time but the game has its own visual identity that ste sit apart from its counterparts. The music is also really good, I hope the soundtrack will be released one day. The sound design is endearing as well, for instance the drums when George rolls are an excellent way to convey what's hapenning on screen in a funny way. It reminded me of Ape Out a little.
The level design is much better than I thought before booting the game: each level is fun to explore and the McGuffins manage to be reasonably easy to find without exploration becoming dull. There is an option to disable invisible walls, which doesn't break the game too much, a testament to the cohesiveness of this small world which can be explored like a small open-world instead of disconnected levels. The story is good enough and the full voice acting is an appreciated effort.
All in all, I had more fun that I expected, probably the most fun I've had with a 3d platformer since A Hat in Time and Mario Odyssey.
Also, I would die for George.
Castle on the Coast doesn't seem to have made a big splash since release. Which is a shame and makes a sequel less likely... Please let us turn this around, and purchase this amazing game!
The game instantly captivates which motivating level design, great platforming and wholesome atmosphere. Every section mixes up the platforming in some way so not a second of the games becomes stale. Also super colorful.
And one can play this game on higher graphic settings even on really low end PCs/laptops. The best game I've played since quite some time!
