Between the Stars

This is almost like playing Rebel Galaxy, but you get to go up and down and roll, but still in big ships like Rebel Galaxy. If you liked/loved Rebel Galaxy chances are you'll like/love this game. It is a really fun game and worth the asking price.

Overall, it's good, still in development, so bugs happen, things might change...etc. Have you played Rebel Galaxy, Freelancer, Tachyon, Freespace 2, Starcom: Nexus? This game is a nice combination of them. Good: - You control a battleship with a lot of tactical features. * - Nice graphics. ** - This dice rolling RPG element with text based "action". Netural: - No effective weapon range indicator. - No target lock. - The sometime real time enginering, recycling, medbay and research. - No camera change option. Just TPS. - Speech. We are outnumbered 5 to 1 and the crew is cheerful as Sponge Bob. - Sound. It's just meh... (I might not yet found it) *- Miss two features like ramming and forward ultimate cannon. - Decision between auto and manual targeting and firing turrets. Bad: - AI. Friendly and enemy ships are just fly, shoot like there's no tomorrow. - Camera. If something flies between your ship and the camera, you automatically target and shoot that object. Regardless if it's friend or foe. **- Sometimes the lights are too bright. You must stare your ship from behind, that's constant bright, and some laser show during fights. After these it's hard to see dark objects and ships. - Music. I'm really missing the dynamic music change. It's like the game had no identity. Always that heroic music like moving your ship around would be a capital achievement. I'm looking forward to see what this going to be, but so far, I'm impressed and satisfied.

Back in 2001 on a crappy laptop with an 8mb integrated gpu, I found myself going through some demo CDs and came across a demo called Noble Armada. I lost days to this space sim/RPG based upon the tabletop game of the same name set in the Fading Suns universe. Unfortunately that game never made it to full release and I was never able to find any other game comparable, until now. While not entirely identical to the aforementioned game (lacks goods trading, boarding ability to take over ships and add to fleet) Between the Stars is still a damn fun time with great storytelling, fun ship combat and very interesting ground combat and skill check mechanics that show roots to a DnD-esque ruleset. Other people are drawing comparisons to Rebel Galaxy...yeah, kinda. Aside from the heavier RPG elements, Rebel Galaxy ship combat is more like Assassin's Creed Black Flag whereas this is more like Star Trek Online, only with free aim Awesome game, can't wait to see how it develops

This is exaclty what i wanted from a space rpg. No more these build your own story nonsense... dont get me wrong i love Elite Dangerous but i love this more since here i have a purpose i can roleplay. also capital ships feel like capital (tough they could be a bit less manuvarable for my taste but maybe the later ships are bigger and handle heavier). so far a fun game.
