Play the original version instead.

Save yourself half the price and buy the original game, which still runs just fine. Add on a widescreen mod and maybe a mod that converts BG1 to the BG2 engine (like TuTu or BGT), you've got your very own "enhanced edition," which works flawlessly, and doesn't come with any of the Beamdog's Enhanced Edition's more unfortunate changes. The new characters simply do not fit in this classic game. They're basically mod NPC's, which, again, you can find plenty of for free if that's your cup of tea. And even if you purposefully avoid the new characters, you still have to deal with the removal of all the old FMV cutscene sequences. The new "motion comic" style intro is a sad excuse for a replacement of the original. They even cut some of the important lines ("There are others! I can show you!"), removing a lot of the meaning. The EE changed both too much and too little. It changed too much for it to be quite the same experience it used to be, thanks to the removal of the FMV sequences and the addition of out-of-place new characters. And it changed too little, in that it's not really much of an "enhanced" edition - there are very few new features that haven't already been added to the original by modders for free. First-time Baldur's Gate players should buy the Complete edition and enjoy the original experience.

Bad version of a great game.

After 60 minutes of playing EE I'm struggling with an urge to just play the original version. UI in EE is TERRIBLE and UGLY, Polish voice-acting doesn't work as it should and the whole game "feels" wrong. I bought it mainly to be able to play Siege of Dragonspear, but after some reviews I'm very hesitant to play the expasion.

Possibly the best BG version available.

I got this on release via BeamDog and absolutely hated it, it was beyond broken and seemed to add more bugs than it fixed. The text was blurry and borderline unreadable, the new characters were so-so and it was delayed for over a month just a week before the scheduled release. Needless to say a lot of the people that pre-ordered were not happy campers. But that's all in the past, the resolution appears to be working normally now, a lot of the bugs have been fixed and the game is still getting patches (Aug 29 was the latest). It has multiple languages built directly into the client and the one translation I did play was well done. It adds several new items, new classes, and best of all doesn't generally force new content onto you if you want the original BG experience. Unfortunately the new characters do have a tendency to butt their way into the game which I am not very excited about since you don't get a choice on the matter and they appear in major game zones. No spoilers but you will get dragged into a fight or two against your will even if you try your hardest not to get involved. I really do not care about the new NPCs, but after the initial encounters they can be ignored. My only other complaint is the lack of original sounds, however they can be modded back into the game. Speaking of mods, some mods will work with BG:EE some will not, unless you have a heavily modified version of the original BG, you can probably get most of the mod content to work on BG:EE as well. So why 5/5? Because if you're a fan of the series and want to get back into it without spending a few hours gathering mods and installing them, this is the best way to do it. If you've never played the game before and want to give it a shot, this is by far the lest painful way to do so.

Don't

After seeing how the devs treat customers I'd highly recommend a pass on this and the expansions. There are legitimate issues with the game, but anyone pointing out issues with multiplayer, buggy UI tweaks, game crashing, characters and saved games being corrupted are being called transphobes and having their legit issues deleted. The devs have also gone begging for good reviews and are currently trying to create drama where they should just admit they screwed up. I wouldn't touch this game with a 50' pole. Stick to the originals avoid anything Beamdog has touched.

A bit disappinting refreshment.

This is still the good old Baldur's Gate, though with many improvements. It's main faults are that not everything was fixed already (2 years since initial release) and there are still bugs popping up from previous patches. I never had much problems with the game after I bought it (the initial preorder at BeamDog), yet looking at it from time's perspective I feel really disappointed. Don't get me wrong: it is a solid game, mainly because it's Baldur's Gate, but if you already own the classic edition, you have to think twice if it is really worth it for the enhanced in the title. The new content is in majority bland with an exception of portraits, new voices for PC and the mystery NPC, so you really have to think twice. Finally I feel a bit bad about how the Polish version was handled - though the team had voice overs already prepared, they were not implemented and one has to resort to all sorts of tricks to get it running. Baldur's Gate maniacs will buy it anyways.
