Description
The world is covered in strange ink, an unknown plague has gathered its cruel harvest. The city seems to be completely empty and dead, but in its every corner there are manifestations of fear, sorrow, frustration, misunderstanding, loneliness and suffering. The situation looks hopelessly, but not everything is lost yet...

Enter the feverish dream and experience its abstract world. Recognize the degradation of your environment and adapt to it. Act with caution. There is a malicious virus waiting for you at each step. Avoid the ink and everything should be alright.

Keep an open mind and be prepared for anything. Expect an enemy in the person who you would least expect it. If you feel betrayed, remember that a fever can change a strong, healthy person into a complete wreck. An infected mind loses common sense..

Attempt to save at least one person. Remember, sometimes 100% effort is still not enough. Don't let the fever infect your mind. Don't let the ink to change you...

Good potential but forced backtracking..

...diminishes the over all experience. I've supported this developer since the early Bad Dream demos since I love the art style and gameplay and you can see the art style improve over time; in fact the quality of this one is top notch is comparable to the classic big fish hidden object titles. But good lord there is so much backtracking in this game where you see all the parts and items you know you'll eventually be using but you need specific triggers to be able to access specific items. That wouldn't have been a problem if the triggers were in the same room or at the very least at the same location but you'll find triggers from one part of the world map to be able to access items on the opposite side. If Moon Logic and Pixel hunting were the problems from the first game in the series, I'd say the backtracking and triggers is what kills this one. Having said all that, I will continue supporting this developer until they get it right.

The reviews are true but the game still is great ...

Bad Dream: Fever is a nice and short point and click that took me about 7 hours I enjoyed the predecessor (Bad Dream: Coma) more than I thought and it only took me so long to buy and play this one because of the negative ratings. Unfortunately they are true. The game only lets you collect items when you need them which leads to an extreme amount of backtracking and pixel hunting. Often you don't knbow what you should do and so you walk through the same locations again and again. So yes, the gameplay is suboptimal to say it in a nice way. Because of the fact that the game uses an auto inventory and simply shows you which item is usuable on which hot spot - no item combinations possible - finding items and hotspots is basically the only thing you have to do (with one or two exceptions). Still I think it is a great game because of the story and what it does ... problem here, whatever I would tell you would be a big spoiler so I won't do this. However let me tell you that more than once my mouth was wide open I really enjoyed those OMG moments ... there are even more of those if you played the predecessor like I did. So, if you are in it for a ride and not for a point and click with amazing puzzles you won't get disappointed. However because of the lack of good gameplay wait for a sale.

Feel like this missed an opportunity

The themes involved just seem they could have done more by the end. At some point it feels like its trying to hard to be a Bad Dream game, perhaps force a tie in as a sequel to Coma.. It is still one of the better point and click games, it does suffer from the common point and click problem of identifying useful objects. Especially since objects can only be picked up after you encounter the problem that they can be used to solve. And the end effect is that the player always feels restricted. Paths being closed rather than opened. The narrative reflects that and maybe thats an intended feeling the dev was going for. Perhaps I just don't enjoy this aspect of meta-focused games, I'd much rather the meta aspects being about opening paths than blocking previously working paths. The payoff is well worth seeing I just wish the road leading up to it were a bit smoother.

Disapointing

Bad Dream Comma was an indie masterpiece. It unfortunately underperformed so the dev decided to take the series in a new direction. If the original game was the result of years of making smaller flash games and then collecting them all into one single great non flash package, this is the result of giving up on your dreams. The art is superior, the puzzles and game mechanics are not. If you enjoyed the first game avoid this one. If you haven't played the original only buy this one if you think the art is good enough to warrant you financially supporting the developer.

Fun To Look At...

But not much else. The puzzles are nonsensical, the needed items are obviously placed & conveniently ignored until you need THAT specific item & backtrack to the same area for the 4th time, the sidekick is annoying - melodramatically interrupting you every step of the way - & the story doesn't really exist as far as I got. Things happen, but nothing's explained. You wake up, the world fell to a plague, you're helping some lady in a plague doctor mask who at one point knows everything, then knows nothing the next, then there are monsters & android looking things that pop up here & there. Really wanted to like it - definitely enjoyed Bad Dream: Coma (you should look into it! Same style, done much better!) - but I can't really recommend this to anybody.
