Join the celebration! Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration takes you on an interactive journey through 50 years of video games.

At the heart of Atari 50 are the Interactive Timelines, which combine historical trivia, digital artifacts, over 60 minutes of new interviews, documentary footage, and playable games into one cohesive experience. When you encounter a game in the Timelines, you can immediately play it without losing your place.

The massive selection of over 100 games spans seven different platforms: Arcade, 2600, 5200, 7800, Atari 8-bit computers, and, for the first time ever on modern consoles, Atari Lynx and Jaguar! Play the classics like Tempest 2000, Asteroids, and Yars' Revenge, or dive into some deeper cuts.

Behind every game are the stories of Atari, what was happening at the company, and what went into the creation of the games and the hardware on which they ran, all told by the people who were there.

Also includes six new games:

  • Swordquest: AirWorld – Yes, you read that right: After nearly 40 years of waiting, the team at Digital Eclipse has created a new entry in the legendary Swordquest series, inspired by the design concepts of original Swordquest creator Tod Frye. Who will be the first to solve its mysteries – and finally complete the quest?
  • Haunted Houses – The original “survival horror” game for the Atari 2600 gets a modern 3D voxel-based sequel, featuring more houses, more spooky situations, and more urns.
  • VCTR-SCTR – This mashup celebration of the vector era of gaming combines the gameplay from Asteroids, Tempest, and other vector-based arcade classics into a single, continuous challenge.
  • Neo Breakout – An amazing and addictive two-player competition that combines the best features of Breakout and Pong, with a modern graphic style
  • Quadratank – The first new entry in the classic Tank series since 1978 combines features from the original games with four-player fun in team or free-for-all modes.
  • Yars’ Revenge Reimagined – The Atari 2600 masterpiece gets a whole new look. Swap between original and modern graphics at any time!

Please note that multiplayer is supported in local mode.

Shame on Digital Eclipse / Atari

Concerning the offline installers: The current version of the base game on gog still is the version 1.04. The DLCs on Gog are in version 1.05_gog and thus CANNOT BE INSTALLED AND PLAYED with the old base game version 1.04. What are you guys doing from Digital Eclipse and Atari, this problem has been around now for WEEKS and you change nothing (apart of taking the money from your customers of course)! Sadly all the other reviews are true.

unplayable

Atari 50 WAS a good game, but now the screen glitches with images of keyboards and other games. I also couldn't get it to load through GOG, only through a desktop shortcut. I don't know how to fix this. I will have to reach out to GOG customer support.

Tip to fix the flashing screen

I got a copy of this game in the first week of September 2025, my computer runs Windows 11. When I launched it from GOG client and went to the game library, the screen kept flashing repeatedly. It still received button controls in each game, but the flashing made it unplayable. In GOG discussion thread, user 'larrie' suggested a fix like this, which works for me: - Open the game folder. If you used the default installation, it should be in `C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Atari 50 The Anniversary Celebration`. - In the folder, you will find a file named `atari50.exe`. Right click it, choose 'Properties'. - Choose 'Compatibility' tab, select 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations'. Click 'Apply' then 'Ok'. => The game should run fine now without the flashing screen.

BUYERS BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!

At the moment, game glitches the screen with a pic every millisecond!!! Atm, my fix is : "...drop the DXVK dll files into the game's directory" Had a family member helped me with this. The answer is a copy/paste from another forum. Running Windows 11, dxgi.dll, d3d11.dll

Mixed experience

First off, as a museum with interviews, scans and such, this is awesome! Good timeline of how things evolved and moved along. The emulation of the various systems is good and it's nice to have them all ordered in the timeline along with relevant scans and snippets and occasional video clips. However, as a game collection this shines a light on the fact that most atari games just don't really hold up. Sure Pong and Crystal Castles and so on made history, and the arcade versions still play fairly well. But a large part of this collection contains Atari 2600, 5200, 7800 etc. games. And apart from the early 2600 titles, all games featured makes Atari feel like a cheap knock-off system to play games which are done better on their competetion at the time. It's interesting as a curiosity and from a history perspective, but as a collection it's a bit of a letdown. Add on top of that, that the keyboard control for games are all over the place. Even games on the same system may have completely different keys bound, meaning you have to hit the menus to even check out how you're expected to control the game this time around. Sad to say, this is a masterful preservation effort, of games which rarely feel competetive for their time.
