An Erotic Horror Masterpiece!

Alternate DiMansion Diary feels like it will be a survival horror adventure, like The Crooked Man, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Everything in the house wants to pleasure you, but it wants to scare the heck out of you at the same time. You never know what to expect from certain rooms like the guest house, the giant bar in the hallway looking over a pit, the spa room or the theater – but rest assured, nothing here is interested in harming our character and everything just wants to help her get off and have a good time doing it. Once you understand that, the sense of dread seems to wane as you work your way through the many puzzles strewn throughout the mansion. You’ll be wracking your brain on a couple of them, although others just require a little bit of out of the box thinking. I’ll admit that the colored ball puzzle was a bit like pulling teeth and a mathematic exercise that I wasn’t expecting in a game of this caliber, though the tile puzzles were far more entertaining and a bit less troublesome. As with puzzles, there are objects randomly strewn about the house as well that you will need for your quest. Obviously, locked doors, hidden passageways, keys under the carpet and all the familiar hallmarks of survival horror are here. Also, the look on the face of our main character at times shows that she’s not exactly too happy about all of these things at first. The game keeps up a horror atmosphere for an exceedingly long part of time, which all falls apart as soon as the main climax of the game is reached. As with most of these games, there is an exciting extra feature, which allows for a fun after story mode that I enjoyed quite a bit. As well as some extra h-scenes. Refreshingly, the h-scenes in this game are also performed using only the original sprites, something interesting for the genre. There are no outsourced H-Scenes here. If you want a Sweet Home/Corpse Party survival horror without the gore, give Alternate Dimansion Diary a try!

Horror/Comedy Done Right with Pixel Art

A game that boldly proves that great CG is not the only way to a successful visualization of an erotic game. + good pixel graphics; + very nice animations, both the default and those in the scenes themselves; + sexy erotic scenes; + moderate, well-chosen level of difficulty, you have to try a little bit but on the other hand without exaggeration and there is satisfaction with the solution of individual stages. After that, the character from time to time gives us various hints in the form of her own observations and thoughts. + cool dialogues, and the MC monologue adds flavor to the story itself; + the game contains well-made endings (we also have good ending) and let's call it "additional content" in the form of scenes that probably perform a function more fanciful than real. - in addition to the endings themselves, the game is a linear sum; - some elements of the game may be slightly vague, but this applies to most games that have logical elements. While the puzzles can be understood, the character stops in the perfect place to turn on the event and find an important key, it is not too cool, because it forces the player to click everything around, even what is not an object. Rating: 5/5 In this game it's hard to fault anything, you can complain about something but on the other hand, these are secondary things that ultimately don't have a strong impact on the playability of the title. It is a very successful game and it is difficult for me not to recommend it, except for big opponents, pixel graphics - which I personally always liked if it was well done and here it IS, and I happily hugged the scenes that the game has to offer.

Remarkably solid game. One BIG warning

This is a top-down, 2D exploration game, with a horror atmosphere but no battles or health management. You complete old-fashioned "Resident Evil" puzzles involving fetch quests, room keys, and interactive floor set pieces. EXCELLENT pixel art/animation, especially with clothing. No puzzles require reflexes, and the small "mansion" usually gatekeeps areas you don't need to be in, so you don't waste time exploring without a clear direction of where to go. The game also does a good job of respecting your intelligence, giving you a brief setup and leaving you on your own with only a map and an inventory. This adult game feels less "adult" because of the writing or explicit content (can also be toggled from Game Preferences → Manage Installation → Configure → DLC) and more because it never spoon-feeds you the solutions to problems. Sae is very perceptive of her surroundings and will comment on various objects. Several are hints for puzzles, and she'll realize this in hindsight without giving away solutions you haven't yet discovered. You revisit most of the game's few locations, but with one glaring exception in the Spoilers section, this feels more like efficiency than backtracking. --- SPOILERS, but all of this is important --- The game's ending has three parts and a playable epilogue, the sole bit of aimless wandering. A lot of the game's (optional) explicit writing has a strong nonconsensual element, which I heavily disliked, even with Sae's internal monologues and later personality shift (from scared to enthusiastic) implying that she "actually enjoyed" her experiences at some possibly-repressed/hallucinatory? level. The second of the ending's three parts is extremely nonconsensual, complete with Sae crying, but you're given warnings and an option to leave the mansion and avoid this. The "less" adult game version ends here, avoiding most sexual references and reframing Sae's "emotional scars" to being because the house was scary. 5/5 game 1/5 story

Not your typical eroge

What makes Alternate DiMansion Diary stand out is that it’s neither yet another RPG-maker game set in a fantasy world, nor a visual novel. It’s an interesting erotic puzzle adventure, where you have to locate various items and figure out how to use them to solve puzzles and advance further. I don’t frequent puzzle adventures, but I’ve been able to solve all but one puzzle without outside help. Maybe if I had given it more time, I might’ve figured it out – it didn’t turn out to be out-of-this-world difficult or illogical. What I’m saying is that the puzzles do make sense and solving them is not frustrating. As you progress there’ll be a handful of h-scenes involving the main heroine, but really the main bulk of them is found in the aftergame, along with the story, explaining the mansion. So it’s a reward of sorts. Overall it’s rather enjoyable and not too long.

Too Tedious

Using the patch you can get some funny pixel pr0n. But in the end ... it is just annoying walking around etc. If you are looking for some good game containing some nudity and a good story, then go for "Lust from Beyond" (not the M Edition!). In this game here, the final scenes with the girl's friends were quite funny. But in the end: would I recommend it to anybody? No. It is just too "stupid". It is not really interesting. You are walking most of the time and trying to solve some puzzles. But neither the story nor the 18+ content is worth it.
