Description
Can you survive the alien onslaught? Alien Breed™ 2: Assault is the second chapter in the Alien Breed™ series, and is an explosive science fiction arcade-shooter with an epic story, swarms of highly intelligent alien enemies, high-impact weaponry, highly detailed and rich environments, developed using Epic Games' Unreal® Engine 3. Take control of the hero, Conrad, the ship’s Chief Engineer, and continue your fight for survival across the fatally damaged space vessel, against a ruthless assault by an alien horde. Your only hope relies on reigniting the alien space craft’s monstrous engines to rescue you from impending annihilation. Deep inside the bowels of the unfamiliar craft, and with time rapidly running out, ready your weapons and begin to claw your way through the darkness in a fight for survival. But you are not alone. The ship is home to the carnivorous alien horde and something else ... something yet to reveal its true intentions ... something biding its time.

Terrible controls and terrible camera make for frustrating experience.

The title says it all. I even managed to play the first game with a little .ini hack that enables proper FPS mouse camera. However - in the second game there are too many parts with fixed camera and controls which make it extremely painful to play - think - you can't see where your aim is, and can't shoot an enemy right in front of you. About the game itself - it is not good. The games are just the same recycled thing, with different loading screen color. Explosions everywhere. Bugs pop out at the exact same spots at the exact same time. Explosions. The whole progress is: go to point A, something explodes, you can't open door/lift/machinery, backtrack to point B, return to point A, kill some more bugs, BOOM, still something doesn't work - backtrack to point C. It makes the game feel longer, but that is not a positive, it is a chore. Weapon and item upgrades are ~25% improvement. Did I mention that there is stuff constantly exploding around you? There is some story, in the form of comic-styled cinematics, but nothing interesting enought that would make me force myself to play this mess. Which reminds me - people compare this games as the better version of Shadowgrounds. The graphics are better. Everything else - gameplay, story, characters - are better in the Shadowgrounds series. At least I had FUN playing them, and that is the whole point of playing games. Buy if you are curious. At a huge discount. Or better watch a playthrough video. You would not miss much. And laugh at the streamer. Me? I'm calling it quits. Staring at the wall is a time better spent.

minor tweaks

Alright, I finished this one,as the first one is acompetent twin stick shooter, yet again is not gonna blow your mind, let me summarise the differences I noticed to the first game: - enemies are a bit tougher and a bit faster, this is good, - The visaula are improved , which is nice - The weapons, more or less, the hyper gun is amazing , I love it , the rocket launcher not so much, utterly useless in close quarters and only viable in a boss fight Things that didn't improve: - ambushes everywhere, the ship is more bugs than met, but waht really drives me mad is that they pop up when you are trying to loot. - Useless "containers" everywhere: 2/3 times the corpses and lockers have nothing in them, hardly the reward you would expect from getting ambushed while trying to loot - the story and the dialogue, or what little there is, becuse most of the talking is subtitles only and when you are busy mowing down enemies, fortunately the waypoint system elimiantes the need of paying attention , gotta love how the protagonist sounds suprised that the ghost ship is manufactured by the same corp he works for, you knoiw, the ghost ship with a similar design to yours, with the same operating system, that is somehow compatible with "current"tech even tho is centuries old - The upgrade system: upgrades are expensive, but well worth it, the catch, you can only have one upgrade in each weapon at a time, but the real kicker is that if you want to swap upgrades you have to buy the old one back, why? because the game hates you (go for damage and the healing boost on item upgrades) - The perforrmance issues are exactly the same as the first, after 40 minutes the game starts stuttering until it crashes, the fix: set affinity to a single core, worked on the first game, works on this one too Overall, the game is a hard sell, it doesn't excel at anything, but is not terrible , 3/5 thanks for the giveaway

same as the first

ots ok for what it is, good to pass some time but the constant fixing stuff as a progression system is getting old

Starts out better than part 1

They actually make use of the 3D enviroment compared to episode 1!. In the first level, then they forget about it rather fast, and go back to the same flat same level copy&paste enviroments. But they seem to have fallen in love with fixed camera sections, which is the only reason a certain bossfight poses any kind of threat. Except of falling asleep doing the exact same thing trice. Overall an improvement over episode 1, with a way higher bodycount, getting closer to true AB game, but the same "quest" design that starts to get grating.

Keeps getting worse.

Not only is this an almost carbon copy of the previous entry, it includes incredibly bad design decisions that make the overall game frustrating and repetitive. The camera for one is the same but in certain sections of the map they force the camera to be statically zoomed into your character where attempting to rotate the camera does not work through the Q/E keys, who the hell thought this was a good idea? The whole point of moving the camera is to make sure we get a good view in order to aim, now in these sections we can't even do that. Gameplay objectives are worse where we almost always have to assume that once you touch a computer it will explode... or something else will explode causing us to go across the map to touch another computer which will explode... then we repeat the cycle, it is incredibly rare for a computer to not explode and just work. Just a bad repetitive game overall.
