Charming RPG (minor intro spoiler)

One of the best charming/full of character RPGs ever. Yes it is not perfect, but any minor flaws are just lost in this very fun game. You start aboard a spaceship and end up on an unexplored planet. The planet was supposed to be far from habitable. Instead of a barren planet you encounter....you are heavily injured. You pass out. Gameplay wise the game has top down and first person exploration. Usually the first person exploration for caves, dungeons and other similar places. Battles take play in a turn based format where you place your characters in a "board" and you give orders to them, then watch the battle unfold in first person view, very similar to a myriad RPGs from the 80s. The music and graphics are superb. The whole "trying to survive on an alien planet" theme works wonderfully. There is some nudity...kind of. I mean, they are not exactly humans, but in case you are worried about these things, there are tits out there. Overall this is an RPG which once you play it for a few hours, you will always remember it. I still remember the original box (very flimsy thing that was). Great game, if you like fantasy RPGs with a touch of sci-fi, turn based battles and beautiful visuals and audio, this is the RPG for you.

Behold and rejoice

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you... the best RPG of forever. And it's not (just) a whole bunch of nostalgia speaking, since I've played the game countless times in the recent years. While the 3D dungeons look superugly for today's standards, that is the only low point of this otherwise excellent game. And the pros hugely outweigh the cons. Be it gameplay (real-time exploration mixed with trun-based combat), story (a perfect mesh of sci-fi and fantasy), or graphics and presentation (outside of the 3D dungeons), this is a true gem and every RPG fan should give it a try.

My Favorite classic RPG

This was the first rpi I had ever played as a kid and I loved it. Really deep and compelling world and characters, secrets and optional areas all over the place, cool loot, and I think the world is beautifully illustrated. It does have some weaknesses- namely the parts where it goes into 3D and instantly gets much uglier and more confusing, although I did find those parts much creepier and scary when I was young. There are also some puzzles and quests that can pretty confusing as to what the heck you are supposed to be doing (there is no quest log or anything like that), but it tends to be pretty minor (and just look up a guide to help you out a bit, there are several good ones).

Excellent and unique

Now here is one of the best RPGs ever made. It has some minor balancing issues typical for that time, but that doesn't stand in the way of the experiance. So the story is that you start on a spaceship and then crashland on a planet where magic is real. One nice feature is that you can get a pistol in the prologue, which is extremly strong, but has limited ammo, it's kind of a joker. Now gameplaywise you are altering between three views: zoomed out top-down in ouside areas, zoomed in top-down in some areas and first person usually in dungeoons. The combat system is very unique. Your have a square grid and your characters can only be in the lower two lines, however you can choose to advance, in which case all you characters move forward and the now open bottom line gets dropped. The depth of the combat is okay, surely surpassed by today's standarts, but for the time and a few years after one of the best experiences you could get. Anyway, it's an interesting twist on grid based rpgs, that wasn't done too often. The game's greatest strength is it's immersion, I think. The gameworld is genuinely interesing and especially due to the switching in view modes, you can really feel the adventure. There's puzzles, nice graphics, and interesting cast of characters, well rewarded discovery, it's just a well rounded everything and one of these games that easily stands the test of time. I can completely recommend this game to every kind of player. One of the best games in the gog catalogue. However, be warned, this game takes it's player seriously, sometimes you die and need to rethink your approach, it's never unfair though. (Also there's alien tits! Seriously, the female aliens have four breasts, but cover only two. What a weird design decision towards nudity.)

The best game of my youth

Finally on GOG, Albion has been on my wish-list for a revival on this platform since the first day I started using it. It's the best classic RPG I know and allows you to embark on a journey into a mixed medieval-tech world that will make you spend way too much time in front of your screen trying to manoeuvre through the changing 3D and 2D environments on a trip of survival in a strange, alien world. An all-time classic.
