Fun but rough

First, to get it out of the way, I'm talking about the game from the perspective of someone who hasn't read the novel so I can't comment on accuracy or how well it has been adapted to game format. The game is overall fun, it's not just talking to people and solving discrepancies between testimonies but it has a myriad of small puzzles. If you get stuck you usually get 2 - 3 hints which usually progress from "hint" to "here's the whole solution" so if they're not your cup of tea, you can essentially skip them. That said, they're a big part of the game so you'd borderline be playing it as a visual novel if you choose to do so. The mystery itself was interesting, though I suppose that's to be expected. I found the new detective to fit well into the story without feeling like she got shoehorned in. I enjoyed the fact that they let you manually deduce almost everything, down to a bunch of minutia about other characters' profiles. But since it's a long, linear story, it's impossible to actually fail a deduction. If you click the wrong one, you just go "Oh, no, that's not right, try again". You don't even get to see anyone make a snarky remark about how dumb of an accusation you just made. Visuals are fine for a low budget game like this where characters moving is not the focus. Voice work, however, *is* a big deal and it's... bad. I can only describe it as them sounding like they got zero direction and winged it based on what the script said. Some of the accents are also VERY over the top. I experienced only a couple of small bugs that got fixed on restart - my mouse staying on screen after I finished a puzzle and Poirot being stuck in slow-mo after a certain conversation. My biggest frustration is that you can't skip dialogue unless you've heard it before. Poirot loves to state and re-state stuff you've already heard, it gets old. So, probably not worth the 40$ price point. I'd love to support low budget games but I don't think I can give this more than a 3.

So far the best in the series ...

So far the best in the series of Agatha Christie Poirot games. In fact, it is a few categories above the previous ones. It has a good story, lots of puzzles (not too difficult), fun collectables, great characters, and much better graphics than all the previous games in the series. The side cases (stories withing the main story) are nicely incorporated into the main story. It is also the longest game in the series, which is something I always appreciate in a good game. If you are thorough and want to find every collectable, win every trophy, solve every puzzle, and explore every corner of the game, you will get about 18-20 hours of play, which is great. The price is ok when on at least 35% discount, so wait for that. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good mystery, solving puzzles and of course - Poirot. I hope that Microids will continue to improve the Agatha Christie Poirot games, and that the next game will be even longer and more interesting.

Dragged down by the ending

Solid game and for the most part far more enjoyable than "The London Case" due to a greater variety of puzzles and minigames. The 3rd person view also works way better than the isometric perspective in the other game, although the character models and animation leave something to be desired at times. But that's not something that bothers me too much in a game like this. The storytelling isn't anywhere near the classic 1974 movie, but that wasn't my expectation anyway, so I would've been fine with it (even with moving the story to modern day), IF the writers hadn't decided they can do better than Agatha Christie and changed the ending. WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW! Yes, after reaching the original ending, somehow an additional knife wound is discovered, revealing that Cassetti had already been stabbed to death when the tribunal took place. While none of the people present (among them one former police officer and two former soldiers) noticed anything. If you want to do an original story: do an original story. Do not bastardize one of the most iconic murder mysteries of all times. I'd given the game 4 stars if it weren't for this.

great fun

Compared to other Poirot games this is exceptionally logical. Anyone who likes social interaction centric games will have fun with this one, especially if you don't play it alone. The difficulty level is not very high (because it is entirely logical) and not like other Poirot games (find out what the developer wanted you to click on), but for me this is very important. It is not as great as "Crimes and Punishment" ( (Sherlock Holems) where you are allowed to make wrong conclusions) but for me it is the best Poirot game i played besides the "ABC Murders"

Enjoyable point and click experience.

Puzzles - 3/5 - Fun and straight forward puzzles, but nothing particularly difficult. A few of them feel very much like busy work for the sake of busy work, but generally are well themed and make sense in the context of the story. Characters - 3/5 - Fun characters who have unique personalities, but the VA work on a few of them is rather stilted and off and it makes them feel very wooden and lifeless in a few areas. Story - 4/5 - I've never read the original novel so my expectations will be different to those who have. I enjoyed the overarching story, and the supporting detective character had enjoyable 'off-train' chapters of the story. Visuals - 3/5 - Nothing in this game made me think that the visuals were bad, because they weren't, but it's obvious that budget limitations has made a few things very rough around the edges. I don't think it majorly detracts from the experience. This is the first in this 'series' of games I have played, and overall I think it was very worth the sale price (think I paid 30 AUD), and it has prompted me to look into playing the other Poirot games in the series.
