Armoured combat from D-day to the end of the war in Europe.

The M4 Sherman, the M18 Hellcat, the Pzkfw Vla/b Tiger - these are the tanks that rocked Europe from the June 6th Invasion to the fall of Berlin. 1944 Across The Rhine lets you experience a tank commander's view of this period of gut-wrenching armoured combat battle action.

Game Features:

  • Fight in battles and campaigns as a sergeant tank commander or at any higher levels of command.
  • Jump into armoured combat scenarios from different time periods between 1944 and 1945
  • Control battles using an easy pull-down-menu, point and click interface
  • Use real tank tactics based on the expertise of Brigadier General A. F. Irzyk. Commander 8th Tank Battalion from Patton's 3rd Army

Don't be fooled

I got this game back in 1995 and still use the mousepad with its box cover to this day. Back then everyone was waiting for a tank simulator set in WW2 by Microprose, right in the line of M 1 Tank Platoon (still missing from GOG by the way). The screenshots promised tank vs tank battles. BUT "1944 - Across the Rhine" (as it was called originally) is a strategy game not a tank simulation. When you see a tank in the 1st person view the tank represents a platoon. As a strategy game it lacks depth. I give it three stars mostly because of nostalgia. If you are a Microprose simulations fan better think twice. And wait for M 1 Tank Platoon.

It's pretty cool!!

I'd play it on a big screen because it can get a little small but, this tactical/war/strategy game has a lot of stuff to like. First off there are multiple historical campaigns for each side as well as scenarios. You get the option to set almost anything you want from supply level and experience to basically unkillable troops if you wish. Also you get to pick your rank and level of command and the medals are historically accurate. The combat has a bunch of different views and you can even fire from the turret of the command vehicle if you wish. Probably the only time I've seen such a feature in such a game! This is a must buy for any Wargamer or strategy fans. It still holds up today!

Hmmm

Gave this game a shot but not for me, even for a retro gamer, this is even too old for me to enjoy. I am sure it is a good game and I hope others enjoy it but wasn't for me.
