Very little gameplay

This is one of those games where you are railroaded from one cutscene to another. The gameplay looks promising at first, but you soon discover that it consists of set-pieces where you are hand-held until you find the obvious solution. There's not much more than slinging stones at enemies with auto-aim, lighting/extinguishing torches and sneaking past enemies. On the other hand, the characters are excellent, the story intriguing, and the graphics gorgeously grim. Buy it for the story if you can stomach the poor gameplay.

Perfect for an older gamer

I have been gaming since 1979 and have noticed over the last 10 years my reflexes have slowed to the point that newer titles are not fun. This game is perfect for old guys like me. Very well acted, great story and fun mechanics make this game a delight. I could see this as a movie or series on a streaming platform. One of my favorites.

Just get it.

A great stealth-lite. Fantastically atmospheric also. Characters even momentarily on screen tend to leave a lasting impression. Personally, it was the sort of game for me that I never wanted to end. You just want to keep sheparding those poor children forever and ever.. It's also likely the closest you'll ever get to playing The Last of Us on a PC (outside of a laggy streaming service). I can make a couple arguements of this game being better though (if sadly a touch shorter). On the technical side, I was able to play it on a 7 year old machine. It easily crunched the ridiculous rat swarms at medium-to-high graphics settings with a slight resolution tweak.

One of my favorite games of 2019

A Plague Tale: Innocence is a game about an older sister Amicia protecting her five year old brother Hugo after their castle was overthrown by the Inquisition and they were forced to flee. The brother has a blood ailment and they set off to find help in a nearby village. Throughout the game Amicia has only a sling for a weapon but it can be improved and there are also various alchemical resources that can be combined to make useful items. The game combines three primary game play elements: Stealth - They are often sneaking around avoiding and ambushing soldiers. Puzzles - Often these involve the plague rats which will swarm and devour you. Light keeps them at bay so many of the puzzles involve manipulating light to make a path through an area. It is the best use of using light as a mechanic in a game that I have seen since Alan Wake. The puzzles are not really very complicated Combat - Her sling only is effective against soldiers without helmets but later she finds a way to craft a potion to get them to remove their helmets making them vulnerable. She can also use the rats to her advantage, for instance if a solider is carrying a lantern she can use her sling to shatter the lantern causing the rats to swarm the solder. Combat difficult increases later in the game with having to use potions and the sling combined to take down an enemy. I enjoyed the game. The combination of stealth, puzzle solving, and combat is something that appeals to me. I also liked using the historical setting of The 100 Year War and the Black Plague. I would recommend A Plague Tale: Innocence to anyone that enjoys those game elements.

A Gem

To all you story driven gamers out there. buy this and enjoy great characters, storytelling and unique story. the game doesn't do anything new with gameplay. but since this is the first serious game of the developer I am looking forward for what is coming next. game has stealth (though not the smartest enemies), crafting (but limited range for experimenting) and puzzle like elements. it's a well made game with an better story. also have to mention how polished the game is. could make you think that an triple a developer was involved. played it on ps4 and got it here aswell.
