Repetitive, but funny repetetive

Good: Long "story" Bad: "sorta linear" Good: Levelupsystem/Rpg Bad: sorta always the same Good: Choice of Weapons/Items Bad: Always the same in other color Good: Mining Bad: i put tape on my mouse and let it mine blocks overnight... where's the fast forward button? I had much fun playing it, ignoring the repetetive part.

Easy to get into ARPG with lots to do

I was skeptical about buying this game, pretty much because of how it looks. However! After playing it on the couch for some hours with a friend, I have to say I have been converted. It's easy to pick up, it's fun, and it has lots of things to do! I haven't played the previous 2 games, but my summary is that this is a twin-stick ARPG bullet-hell that looks very simple but has a surprising amount of depth and content in a big open-world map with lots of secrets. This game is almost like someone wanted to mix Ultima, Oblivion and a Roguelike together into an accessible 2D action game that you can pick up and play without thinking about it too much. The best part is that you level up skills by doing them, like in Oblivion, rather than spending points. So, you'll be really unsuccessful at cooking 'Fried Rat's Tail' the first 20 times... but later on you'll be a master of Fried Rat's Tail. My only complaint is that there is an overall lack of visual and auditory response from killing and attacking monsters. Monsters just die and fade away - they don't explode, have a death animation or even a cool sound. Whilst killing lots of monsters is fun, I think the game would be much better if there was more visual/audio feedback for the player's attacks. As it is, it's just 'okay'. Want to cook? Fish? Make your own armour/weapons? Want to capture monsters and have them fight with you? Do you appreciate some tongue in-cheek writing that doesn't take itself too seriously? This game has all of that and it's best enjoyed with a friend on the couch. Thumbs up!

Great open world dungeon crawler

I got this game on switch and gave been playing it, so far it is really well done the amount of things you can do is pretty large. You can craft armor weapons and and enchant them mine fish capture monsters train them to be really powerful allies and have a whole slew of magic and passive abilitys to play with. You can mine and fish as well and play a card game that is quite fun once you get the hang of it, over all I would highly recommend this game to anyone looking for a fun open world dungeon crawler that may appear simple but don't judge a book by its cover.

A MAJOR UPGRADE from it's predecessors.

The amount of time that I have put into this game, just by playing it "My way" is insane. the "9th dawn" series has always been easy to just hop into and get caught up in dungeon crawling; easily losing track of time. The series usually banks on its simple and very approachable, while being satisfying enough to as stated before, "lose track of tim etc etc..." -This game like the previous, exists in the same map(which in these games is not an issue. feeling more like revisiting a town you love over the years.) HERES WHERE IT REALLY EVOLVES: -you can now break tons of props which provides a great amount crafting resources. -there are your standard combat/weapon/armor skills the series is known for... BUUUUT now adds a plethora of life skills like cooking/alchemy/fishing/smithing etc etc. ==each life skill as well as all others allows you to level in each recipe as well, so the more you cook a specific meal, the better you get at it. ==the crafting is an active system that has you experimenting(outside of recipes) with what ever ingredients and provides a minigame that allows you to maintain your success percentage which is awesome. -this game has FISHING, which is just... it's something that I'm known for doing for hundreds of hours in games. neglecting a dying world or find my kidnapped son or whatever lol. it's a fun activity in games, and this game does a great job with it as well. I LOVE FISHING in this game lol. -the towns and it's npcs just oooze sooo much personality, which is not really new for this series. the npcs have always been fun in these games lol. -the combat, while simple is still 100% satisfying... enough for me to get into old school 1990s-2000s boss fight grinds when... there is simply a better appraoch... -you can tame creatures and care for them... you also can use them as companions. -theres even a fun casual card collecting/battle minigame you can initiate with anyone like ffVIII. CONCLUSION: theres a lot in this game, support it. buy it.

Highly-recommended open world RPG

I've got more than 100 hours in this 2D dungeon RPG. Previously I hadn't heard of this series of games, but noticed the Linux version a month or two ago and decided to investigate. Very pleased that I did as this is far more involving than many big 3D RPGs. The characterisation and humour is well-written and there's lots of side-quests and dungeons to visit. Works well with my Logitech F310 controller, too. Be warned, though, that this is not a game for those who don't like some grinding :-) 5/5
