Yakuza Complete Series
Comprend : Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2, Yakuza 3 Remastered, Yakuza 4 Remastered, Yakuza 5 Remastered and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life

An Ambitious Entry

If you are familiar with Yakuza 0 or Kiwami 1, this one plays a lot like those games. And while not the greatest entry, I really appreciate the ambition they tried with this game. This entry really shoots for the stars as we follow the storyline of 4 main protagonists across the game: the new mainstays in Akiyama and Saejima, the one-off wonder of Tanimura, and, of course, the mascot Kiryu. Not only does each character have their own story, but they also have their own narrative and sub-stories, but they also have their own unique fighting style, weapon specializations, karaoke songs, and interactions with the city. For example, Akiyama runs a cabaret club where he can train a hostess, which serves as one of the unique minigames, that other characters can date later on. That being said, it's a rather divisive game in the series notably in the story and Saejima. 1) The story is coherent but it goes all over the place and has way more twists than an M Night Shymalan movie, and they are not particularly good twists. While there are good supporting characters and villains, most of their actions don't really make sense outside of "it has to happen to move the plot along." That being said, it was really cool as a fan of Yakuza 0 to see the events that were referenced in the game play out on screen. 2) This game hates Saejima. Like REALLY hates Saejima. The prison break sequence that is his introduction is the most hated sequence in all of Yakuza because it's pretty easy to screw yourself if you pick the wrong talents. Not to mention you get limited healing items, an irritating mini-boss fight half-way through, and an irksome "dodge the sniper" sequence. After that, while it makes sense as you are a felon, Saejima has take the scenic route to dodge policemen and doesn't even do some of the minigames. Overall, the game holds up really well for a PS3 game and it well worth a play if you love Yakuza.

I didn't even dare to dream Yakuza here!

This series is gorgeous and unique, full of funny mini stories, sincerity, trust, sacrifices and even drama. After you've finished the whole series, you will feel sorry that the story of Kazuma Kiryu's doesn't continue anymore. A few months ago I bought all the Yakuza series on Steam. I played the entire Yakuza series on PSN and I have the original PS3 and PS4 discs as collection. I won't miss the chance to buy Yakuza on Gog as well. For the new gamers ( I wish I didn't know the story to play them for the first time as you), here it is the playing order of the games: Yakuza 0 Yakuza Kiwami Yakuza Kiwami 2 Yakuza 3 Remastered Yakuza 4 Remastered Yakuza 5 Remastered Yakuza 6: The Song of Life Yakuza: Like a Dragon and get ready for… Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name (November 2023) Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (2024)

Average sequel from Y3, however...

I'm gunna be quite honest. The final boss encounter reminded me of Kiwami 1 and how over the top his performance was. Fighting with him along with a bunch of lackeys defneding him was absolutely brutal with the AI practically cheating as it wasn't a fair 1v1 battle. I liked the addition of 3 other playable characters throughout the game. You can swap between them in free roam near the finale including using them for Premium Adventure mode for the absolute 100% completionists out there. One boss in Saejima's story arc was absolutely a terrible difficulty curve thrown in and ended up coming back later in Kiryu's arc with small hallway corridors that didn't feel fun whatsoever. The only things redeeming the game besides some awful boss battles was the map expanding into the roof and underground territories and having multiple playable characters. Continuing my Yakuza adventure with Y5 Remastered!

A bit tedious but still awesome

Out of all Yakuza games so far, this one was the most tiresome of all. Still, it remains a compelling title, particularly for its engaging plot. The finale, in particular, is a small masterpiece! All that comes with a couple of tracks that have found a permanent spot in my playlist even outside the gaming realm. If only you didn't have to walk so much everywhere... Underground and 'overground' city sections also contribute to this issue. Despite that, Yakuza 4 is a good mafia story. As I progress through the series, there's a growing sense that subsequent entries may not bring as much surprise. However, this sentiment can be deceiving.

Great New Style!

Another great entry in an excellent franchise, this installment is broken into 4 parts, each with its own protagonist. Some are familiar and some are brand new, but despite their completely different fighting styles and unique plotlines, it all fits together very well in the end. I liked almost all of the new characters that were introduced, including more minor characters (Hana-chan was a near-instant favorite), and of course, it all ends with an over-the-top finale that has you cheering at the top of your lungs; classic Yakuza. Each character has their own master from whom to learn moves in unique ways, and the experience system and revelations are back, as well, giving you a lot of opportunities to get stronger. There were a lot of very compelling substories in this one, too; I really like the direction everything took.
