World Rally Fever: Born on the Road

The visuals in this game are fantastic. The art is inspired by Japanese arcade games and the execution is flawless. It's something unique when it comes to DOS games. The gameplay is good, but with a few issues. The driving isn't exactly physics-based, so the car's behavior isn't 100% intuitive. The driving works well most of the time, though, and with some effort you'll be sliding around corners in a satisfying manner. There are some parts of some tracks that don't work right, though, and the car kind of gets pulled off the track, which can be pretty frustrating. Some tracks are very full of hazards, and when you make a mistake, you lose considerable time, which adds to the frustration factor. But overall, the game is good, and I think it should be played by anyone who likes the “pseudo-3D” visuals of old arcade games.

I remember playing this demo - I loved worms at the time and found it while paroozing the Team17 site. I would play it over and over, normally trying to hit the sheep, but it had the most depth and was the most fun out of any of the racers I played at that time.

Man, this game is frustrating as hell. No acceleration, so you always start last. Steereing is awful. Jumping would be OK, but it is broken (try wall in France to get what I'm talking about). Arcade racers should be fun. This game isn't. You cannot select a track, so the only way to play is championship. Some tracks are easy (I've won in Rio on my first go), some are very hard. Music is meh. Skip WRF and try some other racer. Don't pick Screamer though as it crashes. Speaking of arcade, when will GOG add Destruction Derby?

Really love it. I had never heard of the game back then and only saw it when it was on GOG for discount during a sale. Gotta say I was pleasantly surprised how well it plays. The controls are VERY arcade and the difficult curve is pretty steep. It's quite a challenge and i must say this game deserves all the love it can get. A wonderful GOG release :) It reminds me a lot of "Street Racer" only with Anime Style.

An unknown gem (at least for me) of retro racing! It combines truely great looking sprites with some 3D elements to form a unique look that I cannot describe different than beautiful. I love how the different courses look, France being my favorite together with Scotland. The church you drive around, and the castle in the distance are a pleasure to look at. Coming to racing action, I like that it is not as fast-paced as other titles, and a bit more forgiving when driving around. The New York track has some jump sequences I could hardly handle, but I'm sure I will with some training. The computer seems to make no mistakes at all, even in Rookie mode. But that doesn't keep me from giving full recommendation at sales-price for World Rally Fever.
