Description
An old-school challenge in a crisp and colorful package, Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls revitalizes the time-honored formula of the original dungeon crawler series with modernized visuals and sound.

Choose each of your six team members’ class, race, gender, and moral alignment, then delve into one of several dungeons near the central town hub. Advance with caution — monsters are vicious, deadly, and attack in packs. Plan each expedition carefully, stay focused on your objectives, and know when to retreat to the surface.

In between expeditions, chat with the locals, pick up new quests, pray for guidance at the temple, go bargain-hunting for new/rare equipment, and more. With patience, skill, and careful planning, your party will rise from a gang of paupers to a mighty force.
The magic torches are lit, the monsters are ravenous, and the kingdom is waiting for a new hero. Enter the world of Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls and experience a classic adventure reborn.

KEY FEATURES

Your Party, Your Way
Choose from eight classes and five races to build a six-person team with diverse but complimentary skill sets. Change their classes in mid-adventure to fit your needs, or focus on leveling up their primary class to earn bonus skills for the party’s benefit.

So Beautiful and So Dangerous
Tangle with a menagerie of over 100 distinctive monsters, from the traditional to the bizarre, all drawn by famed series illustrator Jun Suemi. The game also features character illustrations by renowned commercial artist Yuki Hayabusa.

Conquer the Dungeons
Every step through the underworld is fraught with danger, and one wrong move can end your adventure. But if you have the grit to withstand what the dungeons throw at you, both you and your party will gain enough experience to stroll through them like you own them.

Wizardry’s Rebirth on PC
The PC remaster of this classic originally released for PlayStation 3 features English and Japanese text with the original Japanese voiceovers, high-resolution graphics, and a brand new Turbo Mode to make exploring the game’s massive dungeons a breeze. All story DLC is included, and players can download the Growth Fruit DLC for free to give themselves a boost when creating characters.

Great Throwback Wizardry Title

I'm a big fan of the NES Wizardry games (the two released in North America) and Wizardry V for the SNES. I recently bought a repro cart of Wizardry: Throb of the Demon's Heart for the SNES, but the ROM is super glitchy. I had avoided Labyrinth of Lost Souls because of the low ratings, but the more I read, it seemed like some gamers had a problem with the old school Wizardry formula vs. the execution of the game itself. That's fair. However, if you like the old school dungeons crawlers, this game is an incredible experience. Break out the graph paper! (Actually, the in-game mapping is pretty good, so you may not need to). Besides sticking true to the older Wizardry style of gameplay, the UX is well-done—smooth, intuitive, and easy to navigate. Visually, it's a nice visual upgrade and I much prefer the anime-style graphics vs. the traditional Wizardry artwork of "trying to make the game developers look like heroes". I have played through Wizardry 8 and Tales of the Forsaken Land, and I much prefer the game style of Labyrinth of Lost Souls. I like the straightforward battles (Wizardry 8 could have some tedious encounters) and the confined but familiar pace of older dungeon crawlers. I'm surprised it took me so long to finally play this one. While it's not for everyone if you like the early Wizardry games this one is a love letter to the dungeon crawling days of yore.

Clumsy and Disappointing

Not even as interesting as Wizardry 1 or 2, this new Japanese edition is certainly not geared for old-time fans like me. The interface is highly limited and clunky, there is no tutorial or manual anywhere, and one has to guess which keys move you where, and that's just the sad beginning. Creating characters isn't as reasonable as once was either, and no direction and/or advice is offered anywhere. I am a huge fan of Wizardry, as having played them all; maybe that's why this is such a dreadful disappointment. Pass.

It's ok

The game is ok, I guess? their is no tutorial to speak of and the game essentially tells you nothing, right from the get go you pick a character you want to play and get a random amount of points to place in your stats like any basic RPG, BUT each class has min stat requirements that the game does not tell you so you have to play a guessing game on your stats to pick a class, moreover their are classes that are alliangment bound and their are classes that you can never even get unless you get really lucky with the random stat generator, or use your 1TIME DLC FRUIT that you can NEVER GET BACK, even if you start a "new game", also the quest requirements are all random drops so the 1st quest can take you 5min or 25min to complete, depending on if you have someone who can appraise the item like a bishop or GRIND pitiful amounts of money from mobs to pay for appraisal. Leveling up is a crapshoot since you don't choose where your stats go which would be fine but apparently you can LOSE stats on lvl ups? why? so i can get punished for leveling up in an RPG for doing nothing more than playing the game. lastly this game has REALLY BAD directions, some quest givers will send you out to get something that you'll have to grind for but then also say "it's in the mid levels of the dungeon" Bruh that's 2-3 FLOORS you have to FULLY MAP unless you get lucky and go the right direction the first time. This game is good for a couple of hours and at a discounted price it's not bad but anything above $10 is a really hard sell, this game gets very repetitive and pretty much plays its' self, if you can get past the crushing difficult beginning lvls 1-3 the game becomes insanely easy after since their is pretty much no weapon veriety, it'll be the same weps and armor with just a +1or2 tacked on to the end.

Solid and good Wizardry Entry

Many Wizardry fans probably know that Wizardry, since it exists, took a lot of different roots and experiments. The last experiment, Wizardry 8, pretty much killed the franchise... almost. While the west gave up on Wizardry after the debacle that was 8, the Japanese went back from these experiments and focused on the earlier titles that where most liked by the fans. And this is the result. From the visuals, there is no doubt that this is from a Japanese developer, but other then the looks, this is good old Wizardry. Like "The Five Ordeals" this is back to the roots and yes, some people don't like oldshool dungeon crawler so if you don't... you should not buy one. It is not 100% oldshool though. Obviously the graphics are 3D (except the sprites which are 2D which i personally prefer), but it does come with some improvements/quality of life features other modern Dungeon Crawler have too. For example, outside of the Dungeon, you no longer have to walk around the town but can just directly select where you want to go (Basically like in TRPG). It seems like some people dislike that but the game is already very long, that is a good improvement to save you wasting time and, as said, all modern dungeon crawler do this, for a good reason. Also most of the stuff is explained inside the game, you do not have to read a 100 page manual to be able to play the game. So its not 100% authentic but lets be honest, that would be unrealistic to expect. But imho these are rather minor changes, the overall tone and look&feel that made Wizardry famous to begin with is there, just transported in the modern age. Overall it is weaker than "The Five Ordeals", there are no DLC (there is one, but no new), there is no tool to create your own adventures and so on. Its a port of an PS3 game, nothing more, nothing less. If you want more, you have to get Five Ordeals which comes in at a higher price too.
