2669, Gemini Sector, Troy System. The Terran frontier between the Kilrathi Empire and the unknown. Privateer takes you to the seamy side of the Wing Commander universe. In the far reaches of space, you live by no man’s rules but your own. The fringes are populated by a volatile mix of pirates, miners, mercs, cutthroats, and Kilrathi, all struggling to make a life for themselves.

In this open-ended game you can choose from many paths. You start with a rusted scout ship and a handful of credits in your pocket. It isn't much, but the universe is there for you to explore in search for profitable opportunities. Become a patient, law-abiding merchant, a smuggler far away from the normal space lanes, a pirate preying on the weak, or a professional mercenary hunting down criminal scum. Or just do whatever suits you at the time. At the end of the day, it’s all about money and survival. Mostly money.

Are you determined enough to forge your own destiny?
  • Customize your ship according to your needs and budget, modifying weapons, armor, and other systems.
  • Choose the life of a pirate, merchant, or mercenary. As long as you keep a couple of steps ahead of your enemies and a couple of bucks in the black, you’re a free agent.
  • Explore a vast universe with countless bases and planets spread out across dozens of systems. Adventure, trade, and exploration are limitless, even after you’ve finished the main game

Privateer 1

I've always loved this old game. I have just one problem and one inconvenience: 1. Had to search for and download old user manual for controls definitions. Be nice if that popped up out of the installation. 2. Whenever I tab to the manual, or some other window, the DOS window shrinks out of full screen, and I can't get it back. Other than that, I love the trip back to the past.

One of My Favourites in 1993

A somewhat dated classic, but a good example of how Origin immerses the player into their worlds. Was one of my favourite games of 1993 and I still love the gameplay loop to this day.

Finally!

Thank you GOG. This is one of my all-time favorite games. I've been waiting patiently for someone to revive it, and here it finally is. I look forward to losing many hours in the Gemini Sector (again!). Hopefully you'll consider adding Privateer 2 and other Wing Commander titles in the future. But this is great for now!

Why am I so into PC gaming?

Privateer is one of the game have great impact of my gaming life, not that its graphic but the story which grab me in. This is an milestone of RPG history, the other one is Ultima series....

Unbelievable

I played this game for HOURS when I was a kid. I have to admit I didn't fully appreciate the scope of this game but just the other day I was wondering if I could find it to play again. THANK YOU GOG FOR DOING THE WORK FOR ME! You MUST get this game. MUST. Heres to hoping GOG will bring me Armada and Strike Commander as well
