Here we have a real classic. Arguably the best in the Wing Commander series, The Price of Freedom has some good action, great music, a branching storyline and more importantly the finest cutscenes you are probably ever going to see in a game. There were many games with cinematics in the mid-90's, but no other game did it like Wing Commander 4 did. You have a cast that would put many blockbuster movies to shame with Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell, John-Rhys Davies and Thomas Wilson. And let me tell you, that star power really pays off. It is mainly due to this that the plot is so enjoyable and the game so memorable. What's even better, this GOG release has those cinematics in DVD quality. Frankly that is reason enough to buy this game.

Windows 7 64 bit - Possible Fix

This is a possible fix for those of you unable to run WC4 with Windows 7 - 64 bit: After right clicking on the icon for WC4, selecting Properties, then the Compatibility tab, select: "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings". Items that were already selected after installing WC4 on my computer running Windows 7 - 64 bit were: "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 98/ WIndows Me" "Disable visual themes" "Disable desktop composition" as well as "Run this program as an administrator" This program died immediately every time on my computer until I added "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" to the items already checked. I have not played the entire game to see how much of the game this fixes but at least it allowed the movie videos at the start of the game to play as well as the first practice flight to function. Love this game! Hope this helps.

Probably the best in the series!

Me and this game have a history. It was one of the first games my parents got me and I'm in love with it ever since. But for me it is more than nostalgia. The game is simply brilliant! Great non-linear story, great cutscenes. The FMV parts alone are a great SciFi movie with big name cast. Mix this with some great gameplay and you have one of the best games (or space sims at least) ever made.

Timeless

Even trying to be very objective one has to concede that WC IV is a timeless classic. Due to its fantastic atmosphere, and its pioneerism. Back at the time it was the kind of game you have been waiting for several months, and when it finally appeared it was pretty much the climax of what computer games were capable of in 1995. As many of the previous reviewers stated, the game had a great story, wonderful gameplay - and in the end credible and memorable characters. My favorite, by the way. was John Rhys-Davies, but also Jason Bernard (Captain Eisen). I am myself no native english speaker, but the word, that describes this game best I think is "iconic" - iconic for the early days of space sagas. But in its great making and its superb "adventure" not only something "of the past", but truly timeless.

WC4 a great Scfi game

you ever watched the new battlestar galactica, well check out WC4 its so obvious that show ripped off a lot from this game just saying this game has great chacters great script great acting and rock solid gameplay that has age pretty well all things considered 9.5/10
