great game used to own this on floppies

Its a very interesting game with 4 mazes to explore. A pyramid, dark London streets, a graveyard, and an abandoned mine each with its own dangers. The idea of going through a living waxwork was a neat idea one that would be cool to implement in a modern game. My only complaint is the mazes (especially the Pyramid one) with no automap its easy to get lost you'll end up wandering around for hours which is bad especially in the Graveyard waxwork cause you'll end up dead if you fight too many respawning zombies. However if you love horror-based adventure games and don't mind the maze-like environments and combat elements this is definitely a worthwhile purchase just expect to get lost a lot especially in the pyramid.

The pinnacle of the Horrorsoft titles

If you liked the Elvira series, you'll love this one too. A classic, unique mix of first-person RPG and Adventure with lots of gore, great graphics and sound. The difficulty of the adventure elements is very hard, but compared to previous Horrorsoft titles, Waxworks consists of 4 separate parts- each playing in a different epoch and environment. The inventory is different in each part, so the difficulty and thus frustration factor is substantially reduced compared to previous games. If you're stuck in one part, you can try a different one. The easiest section is the Graveyard, which can be completed without any hints. Sadly games like this are no longer produced, the closest is probably the Penumbra series and Outlast.

Great horror game ahead of its time.

First of all: This is not casual game, this is not the game to play on the bus and this is not the game which will hold your hand. It is demanding, it requires you to think, try out new things, and most of all save the game often as you will die, a lot. It is RPG game married with adventure taking a lot from those genres, even their flaws. You basically have 4 worlds which you you have to visit in order to kill your twin brother. Each world has a different setting and a different way of playing it. If you commit a bit of your time, it is a lot of fun. There are occasional issues and I even had a feeling like some parts of the game were not really finished (you can dress up in Jack the ripper level but it is almost not used). Few times I had a pixel hunting and of course in few places it is very easy to stuck (by design). I remember my brother beating it ~28 years ago, I beat it half year ago and it was much more satisfying as many of the modern games.

Not really

It looks like a not fully developed predecessor to Elvira games whereas it surprisingly is a successor. When Elvira got me engaged this one got me quickly bored. Maybe it's because I started with the Egypt stage which - as others point out - is the most tedious one. But it was "too something" for every genre it tried to borrow something from. Too empty and non-engaging for a dungeon crawler (you just clicked on your screen and hoped that you'll hit the enemy; no stats, no proficiency in anything). Too spaced for a point and click adventure. I don't know what it was supposed to be but it failed.

About 5 Stages, So 4 Stars

Every stage beside the Egypt one gave me enjoyment, the Egypt one was literal hell. If you forgot something way back in the level, tough luck, gotta restart all over again. It's also the longest level I'm pretty sure, and you'll definitely be needing a walkthrough or else you'll savescum and end up wasting more time than needed. Overall, loved most of the levels, the mine one got me invested, the London one had a good atmosphere, and the graveyard was a graveyard.
