Wasteland 2 Director's Cut Digital Deluxe Edition Upgrade + The Bard's Tale
Description

While echoes of the original release pacing problems remain, the Director's Cut does much to add variety to the experience with new features such as perks, quirks, and precision aiming. It's likely not enough to warrant a replay if you've already finished it, but if this is your first foray into inXile's bleak vision of the future, this is the best place to start off.

Despite some gameplay flaws, Wasteland 2 gets a lot of things right for the genre. Fans of isometric, hardcore RPGs will find a detailed world to explore in the title. inXile Entertainment provides deep attention to detail on an awe-inspiring level. Creation of independent currencies and social hierarchies in the game create a living environment. Fully fleshed-out NPCs with voice-overs add to the detail of the wastes and make characters more than just placeholders. Interacting with the environment may lead to new clues and options for gameplay. Wasteland 2 is full of player choice and replayability that will keep players busy for a while. With gameplay easily exceeding 80 hours of content, Wasteland 2 is not for the faint of heart. Those who appreciate challenging experiences and detailed world-building will find Wasteland 2: Director's Cut an important installment in their RPG library.

In memory of Nimh, RIP brave little guy.

After having witnessed the sheer brilliance of the final scene, when the credits rolled, and the cries of the dead world, names and memories merged in unity, I shed a lonely manly tear and felt compelled/obliged/inspired to compose a tribute-review. Pros I haven’t had a single bug in my 73 hours of playthrough, which is a satisfying result. The visuals, the sound effects and music mix up well enough, contributing to the image of a doomed yet thriving world. Creating your party and leveling up various useful skills brings joy and comfort, knowing that your squad will survive another encounter and maybe – just maybe – do everything the way you intend to. Most characters are unique and memorable. Some stories deserve their own novel adaptations. It’s a good old game. A holistic, self-sufficient stand-alone product that respects its consumer. Its story is complete and requires no additional DLC augmentations the same way the desert rangers require no artificial enhancements to fight and vanquish their sworn enemy. Cons Whilst the first part of the game starts at slow pace and some quests linger on a bit, assuming, that the player should take their time to learn and master the basic mechanics, the second half takes off smoothly, and dashes through the skies like a battle helicopter loaded with the elite ranger squad. Don’t expect it to be a Fallout follow-up or imitation of any sort. I have witnessed some players complaining about this fallacy on a regular basis. It is a wonderful sequel to the first game, true to its source and respectful towards the modern and veteran gamer alike. While it definitely lacks some polish (like some NPC portraits and models), it is a wonderful RPG that deserves even more praise.

A Definite Win if you like Fallout 1&2

First of all, i want to say how great GOG is. I accidentally bought the upgrade pack rather than the game as the backgrounds were so similar and was going to write it off as money wasted but still decided to try my luck and send an email in. To my surprise, not only did i get a response in 10 mins but they totally understood and gave me a refund with no hassle. If you get Seredith as your customer officer. You are in luck. :) GOG is so customer centric, i will always purchase games here rather than Steam from now on. As for the game, i was skeptical on buying it when i read the reviews but 8 hours in and i must say i am loving it. Sure, the random encounters with reused backgrounds are abit of a nit pick but all i can say is i was a HUGE fan of the old Fall out games where Story and atmosphere was the main priority with solid mechanics to bring it home. If you are a gamer before the 2000's, i can see how this can be underwhelming but for me. It is an awesome ride so far, even with the grinding.

Not for me, but it's not bad.

It's a CRPG. It's a tabletop, pencil-and-paper RPG in video game form. Like D&D. With the slow, initiative/turn based combat, and the % chance to hit, and those percentages are frustratingly low at the beginning of the game. If you like those, this seems like a pretty good one. Comes with lots of goodies. Seems like quite a bit of passion went into making this game. I like the dialog, the writing. The voice acting was pretty good too. The game can be pretty funny sometimes. I lost an entire party to underestimating a pack of giant mutated rabbits, and had to start the game over. I got about 3 hours into it, and it's just not for me. I can't really get into the combat, in particular. I couldn't really point at anything "bad" about the combat, I just don't like it. It is what it is - turn based strategy game combat. I just couldn't get into wasting a whole turn with attacks that missed, wait for everyone else to get a turn, and missing all my attacks on the next turn, too. At 65% chance to hit, two attacks per turn, you have a 17% chance of missing 4 attacks in a row, so that wasn't even that unlikely! I know I was near the beginning of the game and my rangers weren't exactly badasses yet, I just... don't like that type of combat.

Huge disappointment.

1. Random encounters are extremely repetitive. I have survived about 10 attacks by raiders (there were no other enemies in random encounters). Game system picks location, positions of enemies (and their weapons) and trivia (e.g. dead bodies) from the set of two (!) situations. In Fallout 1 and 2 random encounters were really RANDOM. In Wasteland 2 they deserve to be called boredom encounters, designers should have deleted them altogether. 2. After saving village from the raiders I wanted to talk to villagers and engage in some sidequests. Suprise - there is almost no one to talk to. There were two, laughable (but not thanks to game designers wit) quests. First: find the dog. Poor thing was standing veeery close to its owner (it took me about thirty seconds to "find" it). Next quest: oh no, my house is burning! Thanks god, there is a waterpipe just above the roof. But in order to make water run through it you need to find a valve (it was "hidden" in plain sight, several metres from the burning house). 3. Frankly I don't know what is this game supposed to be: not enough freedom of choice, dialogues etc. to call it "cRPG", it's not a tactics game either (FT: BoS was better in this aspect, and also in every other), and obviously not an adventure game. 4. Summing it up: Fallout 2 > Fallout 1 > Fallout 3 > FT: BoS >Minesweeper > Wasteland 2.

Man, this game can frustrate!

I`ve always been a fan of old school games, being an old school gamer once myself. i`ve played Baldurs gate 1 & 2 several times. planescape torment and most all the others too many to name. I never really bothered with guns and the end of civilisation games for some reason. Perhaps that`s why this feels a lot harder? But then again i`m a big fan of the old xcoms, which this is a little like. I do like the raft of customisation options for making your Character skills (though I wish there were more clothing and face options) and I kind of liked making the 3 other people in my team (though I`m used to meeting ready made characters that join you ingame). We set off into the world of American desert and radiation, etc... My difficulty settings confidently set on Ranger. It wasn`t long before I set them down to seasoned. Right from the off, the game hits you pretty mercilessly, and sometimes it feels unfairly. Even though I specialised each team member to a sniper, medic general shooter and mechanic shooter, we still got pounded into the dust very easily. It`s hard to keep every one alive. For example ranges are very short, it`s pretty much impossible to keep my sniper at any distance before he`s engaged in the same turn. enemies seem to have lots of run AP, so good luck getting more than one shot off. Also, sniper ammo is like gold dust, but you really need him, so by your second or third fight he`s useless because you just can`t afford more ammo. My medicsurgeon is really good, but again it`s not long before all medical supplies are gone. Also, tough luck if your medic goes down and no one else knows any medic skills, he`s dead. All you can do is watch him bleed out. Creatures like giant insects, and giant rabbits (in one scenario) are hugely frustrating to fight. they reach you in the same turn, kick your men to 50% his health then he loses 20% to hit because he`s been `interfered` with. If you manage to get one person shooting, he will likely miss the giant rabbit at pointblank and hit the guy behind it. I made so many facepalms and I have been forced to reload so many times in just this one rabbit battle it`s not funny. Sure, you`re expected to save often in these kinds of games, bit it seems unbalanced. Maybe it`s just me... There`s a good game in here somewhere, trying to get out. Kinda glad I bought this on sale or I`d be really annoyed. 3 Stars for now. Maybe it`ll get better.
