The game has a lot of good points, but two things keep me from really loving it. First: I don't like a lot of the factions, I wish there were more generic units rather than weird things like basilisks and unicorns. And second the game is based on a pretty terrible idea for map creation. The whole map system uses preset tiles instead of allowing you to freehand make a stream or place a tree here or there, like Warcraft or Age of Empires or basically every other RTS.
If those two things were fixed and certain aspects were tweaked it would have been lovely. It's still pretty fun though.

Welcome to a world full of magic and monsters.First thing you will need to know is kill all paladins you see. With that out of the way on to the review!Its a rts game odds are you have play one before. Pick one of the few races,build stuff and units then kill the other guy. Only this is much more fun!

Before you can start playing you must build a hero. pick the race and class.
With all the races and classes you can find here,you can make just about any hero you want.
Like that lesser undead necromancer who will be destroyed if you were to fight me for power.
The holy warrior who fights long side his or her's men.
The assassin who hope to kill their enemy with one well place hit.
The merchant who says out of the fight and just gets you more stuff to build with.
Can build all that and more with the right hero and set of skills.
A hero can be used for any race or if in campaign mode your race and any allies you have.
campaign mode is the most fun if you ask me. After the first mission have freedom to go on with the story or do what ever you want.Want to get a magic item set from race x go for it! Want to kill things for gold to buy a magic item from a store in the campaign you can do it!Travel around the world, hire pay men to join you for one battle. Buy and sell magic items. Follow the story or just kill things. Fight off a ambush while traveling.
Great fun to be had!
Before a mission or battle you have points. In campaign mode ,you can buy more points with gold you have earn from the campaign.Then you pick a few units you want to take along.Your hero can build most buildings you would need to run a empire and fight the enemy.
Don't throw your hero's life[or unlife] away!You need them to take over mines around the map in order to get the stuff[gold metal crystal and stone] you need to build.Race z may need more metal for they use more of it then race x. Race x needs more stone for they use a lot more of it.
How big one of these resources will be to you depends on the race you're playing and no i do not mean the race of your hero.
After you pick the race to play as and your starting units,welcome to the map. You have in most missions a few buildings to start off with a few mines near by.Start by taking control of these mines and building up.To build x you may need to upgrade w or build y in order to do so.
If a building is damage,you may click on it to repair it.
You can pick slow or a faster repair,a slow repair cost less but takes more time to repair. A fast repair cost more but will take less time to repair.
After a mission your hero will be able to take a few units along with him in to later battles. If one should die they will be put to rest in the graveyard.

You can get magic items for your hero in a few ways. Kill enemy heroes,buy them from a magic shop in the mission or on the campaign map,destroy a lair and then kill its boss.
As your hero grows stronger he yip yip or she will be able to destroy or raise armies all by their self.A necromancer yip yip would be able to make armies of undead to fight for you. While a strong warrior would be able to fight off these hordes by their self or with very little help needed.
Me:I still have no idea how someone loses a pet that big and now that i'm back i will take over the rest of the review.

Graphic wise the game may not be that great but at least all the units are easy to tell a part. Which is a good thing when it comes to not wasting time trying to click on the enemy troops.
.A few of the buildings will have been reused for a few of the races in game.Music i think most of it fits the mood of the game. Units when click on will say a little line.Like for the light!From dust we come!So much death!
Now for the last part of our review before we kill it off!You can play a random map with your hero at any time then take them back to the campaign map or play on your very own map you made!I have never made my own map,so can't say very much about it.
I first played this game many years ago found it fun then and still is today. A nice game to own for anyone who lacks the skill but wishes to be a necromancer like me.Don't trust my review?Then go look for the demo of warlords battle cry 3 and make up your own mind!
O yes remember that drink i gave you?Lets just say you will find out if it was poison or not very very soon.
I'm new to this series, so maybe that's an issue. But playing this game feels a bit like starting halfway through a fantasy movie and trying to figure out what is going on. And a straight to DVD fantasy movie, at that.
The story makes little sense, and seems to throw a bunch of cliche plot points at you and hope you use your imagination. There is an attempt to establish some history but I don't know what they are talking about because there just isn't enough background. It's almost like they made the game first and tried to fit a story to it later.
And another thing, it's reminds me a lot of Warcraft III. Warcraft III with a lot more units and races, but imitation story and game play.
I have not gotten very far in this game and so this is just my first impression. It could change. One thing in its favor is the vastness of the races and units. But they seemed to not make any sense from a story perspective.
The game play seems dated for 2004. The combat is weird. You can't see the enemy's health bar, so you have no idea if your guy or the bad guy is going to win a fight until one of them drops dead. You can get fancy weapons and upgrades for your hero but ultimately you just direct him to a target and a slug fest ensues. It doesn't "feel" like he has a +10 sword of awesome, and a wizardry cloak of magnificent (made up names). It's an awkward game, and I don't know a better way to say it. It could have been fun if I hadn't played Warcraft before. There could be more to it, but I can't tell from my first hour of play.
