Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat

This game is difficult, but fun. You will need to read the manual to figure out what all the buttons are for; there are no tooltips on any of them, and they are not always very clear. It is also not always clear how to proceed in the game. The nice thing about this game is that even though you may lose a battle, the game is not over. It goes on regardless, which seems realistic. The first battle is a bit hard for beginners perhaps, as you will lose it if you deploy your forces wrongly (you do not know where all the enemy units will be coming from), but once you get the hang of the game it will be easier to manouvre misplaced units to the right place, without taking ages. I've had no problems running it on Windows 10 so far.

Stays true to the Warhammer universe. It has quite a clunky interface, especially by todays standards. But the strategy and gameplay are present. It also has a great story driven campaign that will have you scoot all over the Old World. Be prepared however, this is not for the faint of heart. You will encounter a lot of defeat and your opponent will demolish you for what might seem a tiny mistake on your part. But when you finally are victrorious on that one mission that you failed over and over, the reward is so much sweeter. Awesome dark fantasy at its best. Warhammer and strategy fans get this.

For those reading reviews, this game does indeed work. I am running on Windows 7 and installed via the GOG Galaxy installer. I can't speak for any other methods, but it gets past the preparing for battle screen that everyone 6 years ago had issues with. It's not perfect, but it was one of the earliest Warhammer Fantasy Battle games made and it unlike other games from the mid 90's it holds up fairly well. For this playthrough I played on a laptop and just tested with the touchpad mouse and buttons. To play properly I suggest an actual mouse for better and more precise control during the battles as they are real time and being able to move around the map and turn the camera quickly are a little clunky with a touchpad. Full disclosure, I am writing this review under the effects of heavy nostalgia.

I have just bought it. It works perfectly in my pc, i'm using Windows 10. it's a classic!!! Really GREAT game!!! Recommended!!

Works for me, I've played all the way through. I do enjoy my PS1 version better, but this is still great! I wish they made more games similar to this one. This is a classic RTS with no resources and you can't always refill your ranks, and sometimes you lose a squad and they are gone for good unless you reload your game. Try playing through without ever retrying a level, I have and it's tough.
