More good than bad (3.5 stars)
This game is good for a niche audience: adventure gamers who have some patience for tech problems, a rough start, and Myst-like puzzles. Pros: ==Whimsical fantasy setting and graphics that grow on you ==Vivid characters; Detailed society ==Humor, and a few surprises ==Some good, even excellent puzzles ==Inexpensive Cons: ==Takes a little while to adjust to the mood of the game and its settings ==Some puzzles are Myst-like and won’t appeal to everyone ==A few puzzles are obscure, or the mechanics don’t seem right (due to mistranslation?) ==Rough opening sequence ==You’ll likely have to fix a tech problem to finish the game To expand on the above, there is something quite charming about the game, after you stick with it for a while. The moon environment has a cozy feel to it. The “moon men” and their society become rich in detail once you’re maybe 25% through. This includes a creative method of alien verbal communication involving flutes. There are in-game logs that keep track of info for you. They seem typical of the game’s era (2005)--somewhat helpful, but lacking in a couple ways. Also of note, some puzzles have multiple solutions. Beware that some puzzles are very technical ones like in Myst, involving complex machines, or alien systems of math. To deal with the math, you’ll have to have the patience and skill to figure out the systems and do the puzzles yourself, because they’re randomly generated. An FAQ can teach you the systems but not the final answers. The start of the game requires patience too. Almost like a separate game, it’s set in a confined rocket ship. With its obscure puzzles (some of them timed, annoyingly) this is one of the less fun parts of the game. After a while, you’ll likely run into a tech problem where the game won’t start. Check this game’s Gog forum for solutions. Reinstalling worked for me! Super hot tip: Once you dissolve the blockage in the conch shell, revisit your chicken...
