Good Story but clunky controls
I have only like 2h but the random unfail and unpreciese melee combat just makes the game a complete tits up experience. The combat has so many scripted unblockable attackt so that you can get instantly killed by being blocked between garbage bins and other wooden furniture. NO FUN AT ALL for 40€ but I got it on sale.

Worth playing but poorly optimized
I'll keep it short and sweet... This game is fun and different enough that it's well worth playing if you can get it cheap. The combat isn't anything amazing but it's good enough and does require some actual thought on harder difficulty levels. The investigation part of the game is where the most effort went in and that's also enjoyable. Sound quality is good both in terms of music and effects, especially if you can play in surround sound. Now the games biggest issue... Performance. It doesn't seem to matter what settings you use the game will studder for no reason. At first I thought maybe it was a drm issue so I bought it again on gog... Not a drm issue. Then I thought maybe my i7 5820k (6 cores @ 4.8ghz) was the problem even though I didn't have issues in any other games but nope not that either because when I switched to a ryzen 5800x I had the same issue and this is on a 2080ti ftw3 ultra. My full specs... Ryzen 5800x 2080 ti ftw3 ultra +170 core +1000 mem 32 gigs DDR4 3200 mhz dual channel Game ran from a gen 4 Samsung Evo SSD ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Formula motherboard Custom loop liquid cooling setup. Cooling motherboard VRM's & Chipset on 120mm rad and CPU on 240mm rad. All fans are noctua, positive pressure.

You have to live with your choices
Vampyr is an atmospheric, story-driven action adventure with detective vibes and lots of vampire lore. There are some control issues and other small problems, and the combat system is so-so, but the game is generally very enjoyable. The game sounds great and looks relatively nice, although it was obviously developed mainly for consoles and thus doesn't take advantage of PC power, trying to hide some lack of detail with blurring, fog and such cheap gimmicks. Besides combat and regular quests there's detective work to do, usually following blood trails or eavesdropping using vampire senses. Because there's no saving, choices in dialogues (indicated with Y signs) must be made carefully, as otherwise investigation hints may be permanently lost. Combat doesn't net much experience to improve your spell-like vampire abilities, but completing quests and investigations does. You can also gain massive XP bonuses by embracing (meaning drinking the blood of) important people, but it often has terrible consequences, at worst causing whole city districts to collapse, killing all their people and losing their quests. There are some puzzles, but I didn't enjoy them much, because most were more trial and error than deciphering clues. Probably the only smart one was a certain semi-hidden puzzle involving collectible documents. Storytelling is where this game shines. While many conversations are inconsequential chatter, they sure create atmosphere. I enjoyed listening to backstories, especially as most voice acting is decent. There's definitely some replay value, as you can play a pacifist, a street judge-executioner or even a full-on monster killing friends and family, and there are lots of choices to make and a handful of different endings.
