One screen wonder
Bought this in a case back then and enjoyed this a lot. Game starts slowly and mistake may be fatal. This is for those who like to do Hollywood hacking.

Uplink is one of the most immersive and thrilling games you could ever find, since you play as none other than a person sitting at a computer. You will live a cyberpunk dream, complete with viciously competing corporations, thumping electronic music, and a cold, clean interface to help you delve into the inky blackness of e-spionage. This game does not tolerate failure. You must learn to cover your tracks, use command prompts, and navigate the internal politics of the net. If you can pull it off, then each server crash or bank heist will feel immensely satisfying. Otherwise, your "retirement" will be quick and painful. Buy Uplink. This game cannot be recommended enough.

Set the standard for hacking sims
I love this game it's fun addicting, starts easy but can get hard if you don't know what you're doing and just feels good to hack in. That being said f**k the main story, I didn't care in the slightest and it required expensive resources I didn't have and didn't really need for much else at the time so I ignored it. But it turns out it's on a timer so if you don't complete it it will literally give you a game over and brick your save file. (all deaths in the game are permanent and make you start from square one) I would seriously pay real money for a button I could press to disable the main story or at least stop the timer. if anyone knows of a mod please tell me. But in spite of that the game is still phenomenal and you should get it, it is more than worth it at full price and if it's discounted at the time you're reading this get it now, if your computer is capable of reading this comment it's probably capable of running the game so don't even check... GIVE THEM YOUR MONEYS!!!!! They earned it.

Original and fun but lacks more content
This cult classic hacker simulator doesn't look like much but offers a quite unique experience, even 20 years after its release. The premise is simple: you're a freelance hacker doing more or less morally questionable jobs for your clients - from stealing or destroying corporate data to framing other people for serious crimes. The earned money is spent on hardware and software upgrades allowing for more efficient hacking. At first contact, this game looks intimidating and may feel overwhelming. There seems to be a lot to do, and combined with a very vague tutorial, it will take time to figure out how some things work and how to do them correctly. The first few hours are really great due to the feeling of progress when every upgrade is a big improvement, and even thrilling when performing hacking using a low-end rig mere seconds from being caught. To this, emotions add the fact that it has a permadeath mechanic, and unless one makes backups of save files, game over is really game over. The problem is, after those few hours, you'll start disappointingly realizing that you have seen pretty much everything it has to offer and most of the game mechanics aren't complex at all but, in fact, very simple and predictable. There's a handful of mission types, but they're always exactly the same, with only names and numbers changing. No surprises or plot twists; basically, once you've done one mission of each type, you've done them all. Because of that, it becomes tedious rather quickly. And so what if late-game missions pay really well if there's nothing to spend money on? Buying all the best stuff takes maybe a couple of in-game weeks. Oh, there's also a short (and moderately interesting) storyline campaign with two sides to choose from (five missions each). It starts so late that I already had tons of money and high-end gear long before, and if I hadn't read about it, I would have missed it, thinking I did everything already and could ditch the game. Anyway, it's dirt cheap on sale, has mods (I highly recommend UplinkOS, which makes the UI much more modern and convenient), and offers a really fun and engaging few hours at least.

Fun and interesting game
The fun part of this game is when you have no idea what to do and stumble around making mistakes. But once you understand the steps to solving a problem, it becomes a tedious process and makes you want more difficult puzzles to solve.
