The "Psi rebalance" killed this game

Was an excellent game before author "rebalanced" it by nerfing the Psi system in a completely disastrous way. Granted, there were elements of it which needed a touch, but along with those he completerly removed all the elements which made Psi builds fun to play, and imposed restrictions which both made pure Psi characters not viable, and restricted which branches to specialize for hybrid classes. Before this change, I loved the game, as difficult as it was. Now I feel cheated out of it.

Love it, but more platforms!

Love this game. - Deep combat, skill, attribute, feat, and crafting systems. - Using "oddities" (i.e., in-game discoverable trinkets) to grant XP rather than kills and quests is a great idea. It rewards exploration in a way most games don't. - Great value for the money. $15 is a steal for the amount of content here. My one real issue... Windows only. Since the developer seems unwilling or unable to produce Mac and Linux versions, how about GOG gets in on the act and give us one of their Wine wrapper specials? It's likely worth the time investment for everyone involved.

Not perfect, but still quite good.

At this point I've reached level 10 and made it past the game's second cut-scene. No idea how far in that is in the plot. +Interesting setting, sort of like if Fallout and the Metro novels fell into a nuclear-powered retro-futuristic blender. +Lots and lots of crafting. Guns, armour, explosives, drugs... it's like an Obsidian game. +Extremely little hand-holding. +Plenty of opportunities to explore on your own. +Generous auto-save option (something Arcanum or indeed the first two Fallout games could have used). -The combat could have had some more depth to it. There doesn't seem to be cover mechanic, for example. - Some minor language errors. I have no regrets about this purchase and would, like other reviewers, recommend this to someone who likes old-fashioned, challenging RPGs.

Great game, but...

This game has a good story, and great aesthetics the difficulty is a bit of a let down. Not for the fact that its difficult, but for the fact that it gets really difficult and doesn't give you much of a toolset to offset it by skill. Parts of the game, not far in are just downright impossible, hidden mines that will one shot you for starters. So you really need to put points in perception, which is kind of lame if you don't want to play that way. It just feels that there's a right build to play this game, and 99 wrong ones. So it just makes you resort to save scumming and brute forcing your way through the game, hoping RNG lands on your side for once. Could just feel the fun of the game being sapped away every time i had to cheese a part of the game by constantly saving and re-loading. As that seems to be the only viable skillset to beat some of these encounters.

Good experience

An soulful game that respects your time by laying down rules before you at the very start. It's tough, it's gritty and at times has some "gamer moments" but at the same time it's just learning experience. Considering the "fun for buck" aspect - it's just insane how much of the "game" you can get out of it even without completionist approach and with only one run. Good ride with its own quirks for a decent price.
