Overrated in GOG

I'm not sure how it has a rating of 4/5 so I'm giving it a 1/5 to try to counter-balance the overly exuberant raters. In reality this game should be a 2.5/5. I would buy this when it goes on sale but paying full price might be a bit too much. cons: -Voice acting is absolutely horrible to the point of making you wonder if they're making fun of you with every line. -Combat can either be brutally hard or very easy (especially if you take advantage of bugs) -Inventory is horrible and makes your life difficult pros: - fairly nice game world which lets you wander wherever you please - it is fun if you can overlook the cons.

Absolutely awful

Who ever is giving this game even half hearted good reviews is either one of the developers, a corporate plant, or a ghost account of either of the former two mentioned. The game was not even worth the $6.50 paid at the "Two for $12.00" bin. The interface is all over the keyboard, and I'm pretty sure that if you wander off in any direction after just starting the game, you can stand in one place long enough and SOMETHING can kill you within two strokes, be it a "Young Grom" a "Bore" a "Bunny" a "Stiff Breeze" etc. Absolutely awful setup. I won't get into how bad the cut scenes are because too many other people have already beat that horse to death. The "map" is almost useless. Trying to travel anywhere will just get you killed and sent to a part of the "map" where you won't know where the hell you are. Trying to get BACK to some place partially familiar will run you through adversaries that can kill you before combat is visible to the player. Considering this game was loaded onto a Dual Core machine with 4 gig ram and a fair to midlands Radeon 4560, the 3D movement was clunky at best. There were still glitches in the movement as the game "Autosaved" even though going through the "Options" menu was a failed attempt to turn "Autosaving" off. I can think of half a dozen games that were developed and distributed year before Two Worlds that had better execution, menus, and 3D engines. All in all, it was just a horrible shame to waste $7.00.

Not a good game

Let me be clear: Two Worlds is breathtakingly awful. If you enjoy finely crafted RPGs with imaginative worlds and engaging stories, you will be sorely disappointed. If you yearn for challenging encounters with cunning foes, you will want to die. If, however, you enjoy laughing at terrible acting and worse writing, if you enjoy not so much playing as *molesting* poorly thought out stat systems and unbalanced combat, you'll find quite a treasure in this trainwreck. Full disclosure: I played the stand-alone, retail version of this game, not the gog one. I just felt the name to counterbalance all the inexplicably glowing reviews. Recommendation: if the game will let you, play with English subtitles and German voices, especially if you don't speak German. The English voiceovers are painful, but the German ones are hilarious.

Verily, 'tis worth a discounted price. Shame it was never finished.

I paid $4.99 for it here on GoG. It's nowhere near as bad as some of the reviews here have stated. Yes, the voice acting is a bit jarring in places but the dialogue is pretty good and actually quite funny in general (definitely a sly sense of humour at work in there somewhere). The dodgy VA didn't really detract from anything, in fact sometimes it's quite welcome. I dare you not to giggle when you come upon a ye olde looking white peasant gent, giving it the usual Pray, Prithee, Mayhap and Verily etc .... but delivered in the voice of a black New Yorker XD. Graphics are very pretty in places, even by 2012 standards (turn off the hdr and depth of field tho). Music is by no means bad, .. just unusual (for an rpg). A high point being the gloriously cheesey title tune. I played through as a mage and combat was decent, marred by only two things really ... they are big things though: The enemies and the spells. Enemy variety isn't great and likewise their AI. The way they attack means that 90% of spells are practically useless. The ones that are useful are fun and powerful tho. So powerful, in fact, that I managed to one shot the end boss. If indeed he was a boss. Which leads me to the "never finished" bit. I found a couple of places on the map that couldn't be entered. One was a large dwarven town and the other a big castle. Not too big a deal with the town but the castle was a huge let down since it's part of the "finale" (I use that term loosely). I had already cleared the castle grounds of nasties when the final quest pointed me there. Great, I get to go inside there and fight a huge powerful endgame baddie. No. You get to stand outside the big inviting doors and one shot a bog standard NPC (or a few of them depending on the "path" you choose) followed by one of the two really awful end cut scenes. The End. A big let down and says to me that the devs simply did not have the resources to complete their product =/. The journey there is pretty enjoyable tho (it is very open world - think Just cause 2 without the "sky travel" and with some wizards) and for $4.99 I have no regrets (I played it to the end - that says something). For reference, my favourite ARPG is Diablo II. This doesn't come close. However, few things do.
