Half-metal, half-human, half-crazy

Heavily inspired by some of the all-time greats like Doom, Duke Nukem and Quake, with stunning cyberpunk visuals, Turbo Overkill is the most savage FPS ever released by Apogee. You play as half-metal, half-human, half-crazy Johnny Turbo, augmented with hidden arm rockets and a chainsaw that extends from your lower leg allowing you to kick-slice enemies wide open.

In this Blade Runner-meets-DOOM hellscape, Johnny returns to his hometown of Paradise and finds its entire population possessed by Syn, a rogue AI, and its army of augmented minions. Desperate for enough money to outrun his past mistakes, Johnny takes on the impossible job of destroying the greatest AI ever created. Rival bounty hunters want to claim the prize first. Nothing is easy in paradise.

Hero Time, wall-running, dashing and grappling hooks, oh my

Turbo Overkill takes over-the-top to never-before-reached heights. Activate Hero Time(™), a new form of slow motion with a twist. Build incredible speed by wall-running and dashing. Slide on your chainsaw leg, eviscerating foes and opening up bosses for critical damage, and go car-surfing on the hoods of flying cars. Blast away with the Twin Magnums, which lock-on and instagib several foes, the Boomer Shotgun and its attached grenade launcher, or the Telefragger sniper rifle, which teleports Johnny inside an enemy before they explode from within. The FPS genre is about to get wild and fun again.

Race through two dozen stages packed with secrets, bonus arena stages, and white-knuckle combat puzzles. Find game-changing collectibles to unlock punishing modifiers like triple-monster-speed and insta-kill. Combine all of Johnny’s weapons and powers to outsmart, outgun and outrun the corrupted legions.

TL;DR:

o Kill a boss, get its augment (special power)
o Play Spider-Man with your grappling hook
o One-up Duke Nukem with your chainsaw kick
o Kills = cash. Use cash to install augments, upgrade your weapons, and add new abilities in your talent tree
o Be a ghost runner while wall running
o Attack from above riding the hood of your flying car like a kung-furious badass
o Mini-rockets built into your robotic arm? ✔
o This. List. Will. Grow. Wishlist the game to see it happen

Don't quote us on nuthin'

Turbo Overkill is fast, frenetic and ferocious—excess personified,” said Sam Prebble, one half of Trigger Happy Interactive. “This is the game we’ve always wanted to play; making it is a dream project. Relentless enemies, extremely deadly and fun weapons, speed and precision above all else—if you love Quake III Arena, modern and classic DOOM, or Apogee’s legendary first-person shooters, you’ll feel right at home in Paradise.”

“As the guy who helped launch the shooter genre with Wolfenstein 3D, Rise of the Triad, Duke Nukem 3D, Max Payne, and Prey, I haven’t been this excited about an FPS since the golden era of Apogee/3D Realms,” wrote Scott Miller, founder. “Turbo Overkill is a sandbox of fun and original gameplay ideas that come together like a night of melty hot pizza and your favorite cold, frothy brew. Playing this game made me a Turbo Lover all over again.”

Clunky

Maybe it's just me playing this right after "Prodeus" and "Dusk" but this game feels very clunky. The character moves fast, bullets move fast, but the game doesn't feel fast it just feels x2 speed up. A character melee-hit me behind a wall. Couldn't enjoy.

Good Boomer shooter

Good boomer shooter. Fast pace, epilepsy warning.

Triple A is finished

Are you looking for an S-tier, cyberpunk-themed boomer-shooter with a flawless soundtrack? Well that's down the hall at Ion Fury. This here is an S-tier, cyberpunk-themed ARENA-shooter with a flawless soundtrack. I don't understand how this is considered, "boomer," considering all of the modern conventions, abilities, upgrades, sidegrades, and "builds," that, when combined with the insane frenetic pacing, acrobatics, parkour, chainsaw-sliding, adrenaline-soak chaos, just screams modern shooter. Is it because it's not COD or Battlefield or whatever? And as for the "ARENA" thing, yes, the levels are huge and intricate and a joy to traverse and blow your way through, but every now and then you get locked in a room and put through the ringer. Well, whatever, this game is beautiful, it sounds beautiful, and the action lives up to the name. It's so beautiful, in fact, that you might just wish it would slow down so you could explore the city and have the world fleshed out a bit, but this ain't that kind of game; there's cyborgs to kill. I suppose if there are any downsides it's that towards the very end things start to drag a bit, but that's really about 5% of the total experience, maybe less. Oh, and never play this before going to bed; it's like a pot of coffee and a syringe full of dopamine.

This is REALLY GOOD

Frankly one of the best shooters I played in recent years, this game has a fast, violent and visceral combat, it's like Doom Eternal, but indie!

Peak BoomShoot goodness

Turbo Overkill isn’t just a good boomer shooter with cyberpunk flavor: it’s a collection of great design elements that make for an incredibly visceral experience. It has all we’ve come to expect from great throwback FPS games: good guns, solid level design, frantic action, great mobility, a diverse enemy roster… And it excels at each of these things. Sections that would be a pain in any other shooter become a joy to go through in TO, courtesy of great controls and actually fair design. It’s a challenging game for sure, but the incredible mobility and powerful weaponry of Johnny ensure that fights are always fun, and that no situation is ever unsalvageable. An impossibly far ledge to reach? Double-jumps and dashes are your best friends! Surrounded by a horde? Nothing the chainsaw-leg can’t handle! Mini-bosses are ruining your health? Whip out those micro-missiles and they’re gone! Not to mention that the upgrade systems are, for once, non-obtrusive and actually useful (to the point of nearly breaking the game). TO is fast. TO is brutal. TO is awesome. It bears mentioning that this is also a game full of attitude, lovingly paying homage to all the gaming and movie classics that inspired it, and blending them all to create a colorful and stylish mix of sci-fi madness. It has decent storytelling and sweet low-poly graphics too, though it’s not as well optimized as one might have hoped. The issue with TO is that it doesn’t know when to freakin’ STOP. With its 25 levels averaging 30 minutes to complete, the campaign is too long for such an intense shooter; the boss fights are also dragged out and usually need to be won in a single sitting, a baffling decision for such an otherwise well-designed gem. The last couple of levels are among the most unbearably long final acts I’ve seen in gaming. But apart from that? TO is a fantastic action game, seriously one of the best in its genre. If you ever liked a FPS in your life, chances are you’ll enjoy this hectic masterpiece.
