This game was clearly made with passion. You can see the proof of this almost everywhere. The 2D environments are colorful and enchanting, gameplay feels smooth and polished, not to mention the absolutely huge and very diversified world in which you can spend many hours just exploring. Treasure Adventure Game casts you in the role of a young boy who lands on an island that is a fragment of what was once a continent, destroyed in the war between a demon and a wizard. You accept quests, travel across the oceans, and generally have a bang-up time of being a little boy in a big world, out there looking for treasure and adventure. Your equipment consists of a hat, a parrot, and a boat that appears whenever you touch water. Combine those with the basic platforming abilities like jumping and crawling that you’re familiar with from every platforming game ever, and you’ve got the basics of a phenomenal romp across a huge world filled with treasure, maps, secrets, danger, and triumph.
The music changes with the environments and day-night cycles, enhancing the feel the game is evoking and making you feel immersed in the world as you travel through it. The game has a retro feel, yes, but you really have to see it for yourself to understand what Treasure Adventure Game brings to the table. Since it’s free, of course, there is simply no reason not to!
Treasure Adventure Game was created by Stephen Orlando. He spent over 2 years of his life developing it. When you see the scope and detail in this game, it’s hard to believe that it was created by just one guy. But it was! So if you like it, head over to his website and break that donate button!
Huge, open, and highly interactive world to explore and a very interesting story to experience.
Very diversified environments with changing weather and NPCs that are not static but living their lives.
Beautiful music, composed by Robert Ellis, that changes with the background and creates a very unique and enchanting mood.

Had me hooked for days. Fine music, especially boss themes. Puzzles are adequately difficult, and truly an open world exploration. The only thing I wish was made clear was using the bottle with the little spinners on each island to teleport, but the sea theme was good so I didn't mind travelling the hard way from place to place all game long.
This game is great for many reasons:
*IT'S FREE!
*Cool retro 2D graphics
*Great storyline
*The Music is AWESOME!
Cons:
*Controls can't be adjusted in-game
*Runs in a window
Overall though great game, it's free... enjoy!
First of all I had almost no technical difficulties while playing this game on 32-bitWindows 7, besides the fact that game sometimes crashed while exiting which wasn't that bad. However be aware that many other people complain about game crashing, so you may not be as lucky.
First impression of the game is very good. Controls are good and responsive. You're fighting with enemies, not with controls.
Puzzles are mostly logical and fun, you're free to explore world in different order, but if you're lost than sticking to suggested order almost always help.
Bosses have exactly right difficulty to get you motivated to play more
Music is very good - it matches gameplay perfectly.
During first 7 treasures game was really good. And then, after rather difficult level when you wonder how much more this game has to offer, and how insanely difficult last level is going to be...
you are met with a big disappointment. Way to get last 5 treasures is really boring, and the ending, especially 100% one, is just one big disappointment. Just few additional scenes when you're expecting something like hell level from Cave Story.
There are also few places where you probably are going to need a guide, but fortunately there are just few of them.
To sum up, this is a good game but it's clear that creators wasted potential of this game. It's neat 2D platformer, but nothing more. If you want free game that is more challenging and rewarding try Cave Story.
As many others have said, this (as of this review) free game is better than a lot of paid games. If you're like me and add games to your library just because they're free but never play them, you should give this one a chance. I was surprised by how quickly it hooked me. And once it did, I dropped everything else I was playing because it was just a lot more fun.
I guess this could be considered a Metroidvania, but I think it has more in common with the classic side-scrolling Action RPGs like Faxanadu, Cadash, etc. You do get access to new areas as you collect items, but I'm talking about overall feel here. This is honestly a good thing as it doesn't weigh itself down with trying to force itself to fit that genre. It has its own unique flow.
There's so much personality here in the world and characters. There's the essential element of mystery, seeing a blocked off item or area and wondering how you might be able to access it later, and then a feeling of reward when you finally reach them.
A common problem with "retro" games like this is unbalanced difficulty. I've played a lot of games like this where the difficulty just spikes and you wonder if the developer was just having a bad day or something. There are some spikes here with some of the boss fights, but it's nothing too crazy, and I didn't get stuck on any one thing for too long.
I'm giving it five stars relative to other games of its type. It hits all the right notes, it kept me interested throughout, and most of all it was just fun to play.
