Highly Underrated and Hidden Gem
Titan Quest is my favorite Action-RPG of all time, and I couldn't be happier to see the game finally receive a well-deserved GOG release. I'll try my best to give a useful review. The game takes place in an ancient world where all the creatures of mythology actually exist. You find that the world is becoming overrun with monsters, and you set out on a journey to find out why. This journey will take take you halfway around the globe, and you'll even reach mythical places like Hades and Elysium. Of course, the plot does progress into more than just this, and while it won't win awards, the story is decent and it at least works. When it comes to balance, Iron Lore (the devs) did an excellent job of creating character trees that actually work, and work well. In most other games, you'll come across classes and builds that should not be touched with a ten-foot pole. In Titan Quest, any and every character build is viable and competent, without any of them being under or overpowered. I found this quite refreshing, because you can actually make the type of character you want to make and not suffer any kind of repercussions for it. Please note that this does *not* mean the game is easy. In actuality, it can become quite tough both towards the end and especially when playing in higher difficulties. My two main gripes with the game aren't even that serious, but you should at least know about them. First, at least in the non-Anniversary game, higher difficulty levels are locked until you finish the game on the previous difficulty. This means that to unlock "Very Hard" you have to beat "Hard," and to unlock "Hard" you have to beat "Normal". And second, dungeons are *not* randomized, which could potentially harm your replay value. Oh, and the graphics have not been overhauled. Believe it or not, the game actually looked that good in 2006. I can't cover everything in this short review, but I highly recommend giving this game a chance. You'll be surprised at what you find.
