Spoof Review

First of all I want to say I don't own this game but I'm going to bitch and whine about it anyway. I have supported Gwent from the very beginning but I don't like it any more because the developers didn't develop the game exactly how I wanted it to be developed, they should have listened to everything I said on the forums because even though I have no qualifications in game design I know far more than they could ever dream of knowing. And now they release ThroneBreaker which is a graphic novel card game, basically Gwent, next CDPR will be saying is the Witcher series of games is based on the writings of some novelist. ThroneBreaker is a rip off because although I have free will not to buy the game or any game for that matter they actually expect me to buy this game, to spend my money on it, CDPR are just trying to force me to buy the game because it has 20 new Gwent cards and buying it is the only way I can get them even though I don't play Gwent any more. To top off this disappointing release they make the game challenging, what! How dare they make a game that has consequences if I get things wrong I want to be able to get out of it easily not be told I am fallible, CDPR what were you thinking! I don't understand is why the game does not support ultra wide monitors that 99% of the gaming community do not own, CDPR should have bent over backwards to support a minority of users because we have lots of money to spend on very expensive setups and clearly are more important than the majority of gamers. And my final gripe, how dare CDPR have an exclusive release on GOG a part of their own company, private companies that have their own platform for games should not be allowed to do such things, they should release their games on the platforms that I want and not be so selfish. I have lost all faith in CDPR and GOG for not doing exactly what I want at all times, I think my gripes are fully justified, don't agree with me then you are just blind to the truth.

TYPICAL CDPR QUALITY

I'm a huge fan of the books and i always wondered what happend to rayla and meve. In the books Meve is a very respected Queen and all the kings took advice from her. Playing the game was like reading a book but you are choosing what will happen on the next page. sooooo damn immersive. Music: 6/5 Storytelling : 5/5 Voiceacting: 6/5 Visuals/ Artstyle: 6/5 Gameplay: 5/5 GOTY 2018 for me no doubt. Masterpiece in its genre!

When gaming becomes an interactive novel

Just wanted to shout out for the quality of this game, after reading an interview with joint-CEO Adam Kiciński telling about the somewhat disappointing sales of this game. This game deserves to be huge. It reminds me of the legendary old-school HoMM3 in many ways. Except that the creatures are represented by GWENT-cards. So the Gwent-battles are excellent (maybe somewhat too easy at times, but you can control that yourself by using a more challanging deck and not some OP-deck), just like most of the puzzels using these cards are a fun twist that break the regular gameplay. Some puzzles are quite hard, especially in the first stages. But nothing impossible to crack. Biggest plus is the story-telling. Playing this game is like reading a book on the Witcher-universe in which you make key decisions that will question your own sense of morality and justice. The only negative for me was the amount of time the AI needed to make its next move in certain battles (only on Bonebreaker difficulty). All in all, highly recommended!

A deep RPG, not just a card game

I have read many opinions that demanding so much money just for a card game is not cool. Make no mistake, Thronebreaker is not just a card game. It s more like a deep, story rich RPG with combat replaced by Gwent. The Good: + Game is full of difficult choices that really matter, often resulting in unpredictable consequences at a later point in the future + Story of Quuen Meve's journey through forests, swamps, mountains and her own homeland is gripping from beginning to end + Everything is fully voice acted + Puzzles are varied and challenging The Mediocre ~ Characters that join you on your journey are represented by cards that can get added to the deck. That unfortunately means that if a chracter leaves you, you lose the cars as well. Personally I like this, as certain choises resulting in falling out with a character leaves you weaker (real consequences!), but not everyone enojys this from what I heard ~ Most bugs seem to have been fixed. I personally only encountered one situation where a puzzle ended in my victory at the end of turn when it shouldn't have. Other than that, a problem free experience. ~ Battles get a bit repetitive after a while The Bad: - Game balance (this is after the balance update). I played on the hardest difficulty and there are certain mechanics that still made this game a breeze when used properly. That is, until the last battle with aep Dahy. It was an incredible spike in difficulty and, due to how the balancing works, made aep Dahy's commander abilities absurdly overpowered. Not sure if you can even win that fight without a perfect draw. I gave up and lowered the difficulty for that one.

Amazing 45 hours of amazing story

I don't really know what I want to write in my review, because I'm bad at reviewing stuff, so I'll just tell you, that even if you don't play the standalone Gwent - Thronebreaker won't be hard for you even on medium and hard levels. I think that if you'd like to start playing Gwent - this game is a good starting point. The story is amazing, tutorials are great and the RPG system is also implemented quite well. I've made 2 playthroughs in Thronebreaker, and trust me - there's no better feeling than completely destroying Nilfgaard in Gwent battles. Some battles are even more intense than most battles in The Witcher 3 (and I've made 5 playthroughs in TW3). Bought it for full price on PS4 and GOG, and was not disappointed. Give it a try! Catch Thronebreaker on a sale - or just refund the game if you dislike it - but give it a try. Looking forward to new The Witcher Tales games, well done CD Projekt Red <3
