The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

I started with Witcher 1 and bought Wichter 2, because I realy enjoyed #1. #2 is a completely different experience and much to the worse so in comparison to #1. What I hate most - beside a troublesome combat system and an absolutely foolish hoarding of enemies - is, that one is constantly told to to this and to that - endlessly. There is no enjoying the great graphics or leisurly walking the surroundings - one task follows the other in a sequential way and the combat sessions seem to be the main reason for the game and not the story itself. Fighting is mostly against many enemies at once and the combat system is akward. One is constantly reloading and trying anew. I have played this kind of games since many years and I'm really pissed of at the difference between this "sequel" and #1. This is not the game one expects if one has played #1 - instead it is something quite different. I feel cheated by the makers of this follow up.

Has bugged quests that can't be completed. I gave up half way through chapter 1. Not a fan of running back and forth for 2 hours, only to find I've been chasing a bugged quest. Will be avoiding everything these guys make, in the future.

For being this being heralded as an amazing must play game, I'm unimpressed by the combat. It's like a poor combination of Batman Arkham series and a Soulsborne game but with horribly fluidity. Geralt is incredibly frail and weak and redshirts can seem to have no problem handling him in a fight and has to stop to meditate to drink a potion to try to get more health regen? Come on. For being an amazing swordsman he has to stay still while blocking/parrying. The traps and other usable items hurt the PC which is a poor design choice as well. The spell system of this word does this and this word does this should have some sort of help text to let you know what it does after the tutorial instead of having to memorize it that early on. All in all I could only slog about 45 minutes into this game. It's very unfun and I could care less about the story as it never seemed like it was that impressive to begin with. It seems people are more in love with the company itself and how it actually has good business practices.

The state of this game is alright compared to alot of todays releases. That being said technical issues still do exists and I fear some very standard options for the user will never be implement. The unfortunate fact is, that you do not buy ready made games these days, you buy a beta version of the game. The story is interesting, the game is well made overall. I cannot wait for CD Projekt to continue this story. I pirate all of my games these days, but I bought this expecting most of the issues being fixed with the patch 2.0. Some changes to the combat system were made which I dont fully agree on but I cannot bad mouth the devs from them. For the price of 21 euros (29,99 USD) from the sale, it was worth it. CD Projekt has not yet started charging customers for content patches (referred to today as DLC or Downloadable Content), so for this price you get all of the content aswell. If you are easily annoyed by the little things and regret purchases made for games that are not perfect, do not buy this game. Negatives (patch 2.0): - Something is very wrong with the mouse control in the menu, no problem in the game (for me personally). Mouse has alot of delay in its movements while in the menu. - Cannot adjust the FoV. No camera control. For patch 1.2 there exists a program that allows you to choose the different cameras. The Witcher 2 dev team however does not allow the user to choose the camera. I do not know if adjusting the FoV or the camera would break cutscenes or w/e but for players who get sick from playing "zoomed in" games I cannot recommend you buy this. Download it off torrents and try it first. - Mouse bindings are fucked up. If you bind an action to your mouse 4 or 5 keys, it will not work properly. Not all action keys can be adjusted. - Key bindings and graphical options cannot be adjusted while in-game. - Tutorial is reported to have alot of bugs if you do not follow it precisely (no personal experience).
