Old gameplay, story a bit crass
I know this was pretty good back in 2007, considering its competition, but the gameplay just doesn't hold up at all. Play on easy maybe, or have some god mode to enjoy this. nowadays. Thankfully, I didn't come across many bugs, so kudos to CDPR for polishing(no pun intended) the game. Still, play this if you are curious, but I don't think it holds up well, especially with Wticher 3 or even Witcher 2 having come out.

Good game - impressive first game
The Witcher 1 has not aged well in some aspects. Things like combat and graphics are janky sometimes and do need some serious getting used to. That being said, the story overall is very well written, with many nuances and interesting characters - even if some of the villains are a little bit "cliche". There are many small details woven into the world and narrative that make it seem very natural, like NPCs having a daily routine around the city(ies). As CDPRs first game, the Witcher is extremely impressive, considering how little budget and experience these guys had at the time. In that regard it is impressive how much of their vision they managed to do so well. Make no mistake, The Witcher 1 shows its age and needs some getting used to. But it will be worth it.

The Witcher: A Vintage RPG Gem
Stepping into the boots of Geralt of Rivia in “The Witcher: Enhanced Edition” is like opening a time capsule – it’s a journey that shows its age in graphics but compensates with charm. The visuals may not compete with modern titles, yet they hold a certain nostalgic allure. The soundtrack is a highlight, with melodies that beautifully complement the game’s atmosphere. It’s easy to get lost in the world with such a pleasing auditory backdrop. However, the writing sometimes feels offbeat, possibly a casualty of translation. Despite this, the voice acting is nothing short of stellar, bringing characters to life with remarkable flair. Be prepared for a bit of legwork; the game requires frequent back-and-forth treks which, while immersive, can sometimes feel tedious. Gameplay mechanics like crafting and meditation, along with certain minigames, might test your patience, but they add depth to the role-playing experience. Combat is functional, albeit not groundbreaking. It gets the job done and keeps you engaged through the narrative. The game’s approach to romance is humorously old-school, with ‘collectible’ cards as mementos of Geralt’s conquests. It’s a quirky touch that will either amuse or bemuse. Where “The Witcher” truly shines is its story. It’s a rich, complex tapestry that weaves intrigue with the fantastical, delivering a narrative punch that’s hard to forget. Performance-wise, the game runs smoothly, a testament to the care put into this enhanced edition. It’s a solid experience for a title of its age. “The Witcher: Enhanced Edition” is a game I’d love to recommend wholeheartedly, but I do so with a caveat. It’s a product of its time, and while it has aged in places, the core experience remains a gem for those who can appreciate its vintage quirks.
